RACE 2: MAIDEN PLATE            1400M

Trainer Mr P. Walsh was reprimanded for the late arrival of AIR TIME to the mounting yard. After arriving at the barriers the reins on HIGH FLYING were replaced when they were found to be of substandard quality. Trainer Ms S. Castle-Roche was reprimanded under AR8(n) and advised to ensure that all gear that is used is of appropriate standard. The start was delayed when GLENLEE proved difficult to load. GLENLEE then hung out from the 800 metres and ran to the outside fence on straightening. A post-race veterinary examination of GLENLEE found that horse to have slight abrasions to the right side of the mouth. Trainer Mrs B. Joseph was advised that a warning would be placed against GLENLEE for being difficult to load and that GLENLEE would be required to trial to the Stewards’ satisfaction for hanging out at the home turn. AIR TIME and MONAGHAN were slow to begin. When GLENLEE hung out at the 800 metres ARDVASSAR was hampered and carried wider on the track.

RACE 3: TWO-YEAR-OLD OPEN HANDICAP            1000M

LACHLAN RIVER, WHY CRY and BATTLE JACKET were slow to begin. Approaching the 800 metres BORNEO HOLIDAY hung out and hampered PENTUP and KISS MY FUJI, which resulted in PRETTIFY being carried wider on the track. PRETTIFY was then obliged to race wide for the remainder of the event. For some distance after the 600 metres LACHLAN RIVER was held up behind PENTUP. KISS MY FUJI was inclined to lay in after straightening. B. Stanley (PENTUP) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that approaching the 600 metres he did permit his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of LACHLAN RIVER which was carried in onto WHY CRY which in turn was carried in onto TRAMSTOPPER resulting in all runners becoming severely crowded and TRAMSTOPPER being severely checked and to lose running to which it was entitled. B. Stanley’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday 11 July 2004 and to expire on Saturday 17 July 2004, on which day he may ride.

RACE 6: OPEN HANDICAP            1200M

Acting on a confirmed telephone call that RADIANT IMAGE had an elevated temperature it was withdrawn by Stewards at 9.50 a.m. This race was run approximately nine minutes late due to an on-course patron requiring ambulance attention. Race 7 was rescheduled to commence at 4.02 p.m. and race 8 at 4.37 p.m. SERKELT blundered noticeably on jumping. Shortly after the start FULAGROUCH and IRISH JESTER were severely crowded between KARA GEORGE and WRAPPED UP. At the point of the home turn KARA GEORGE shifted out to improve and bumped FULAGROUCH. When questioned regarding the performance of IRISH JESTER J. Penza stated that he was instructed to race in a forward position but received crowding shortly after the start. He added that, despite being placed under pressure in the early stages, his mount showed little early speed and as a result raced further back than he had anticipated. He added that, after straightening, his mount only found the line fairly and had in his opinion disappointed. A post-race veterinary examination of IRISH JESTER did not detect any abnormalities.

Approaching the 900 metres KAWAREE was checked and shifted out abruptly away from the heels of ACES ARE RED (App. Lye), which shifted in when not clear. AMBER LIQUID, which was following, was checked in consequence. After taking into account her relative inexperience App. N.
