Two Races for Canberra's Synthetic Track

The Canberra Racing Club will conduct two races on the Acton (synthetic) Track at its next race meeting on Tuesday 1st November, the 104.7 Melbourne Cup Day race meeting.

The Maiden Handicap and Class 3 Handicap will be run as the first two races on the program at the amended distance of 1206 metres. Race fields on the Acton Track will be restricted to 11 starters and to 12 on the grass course proper.

The Canberra Racing Club successfully staged the last two races on Crimsafe Security Canberra Cup Day on the Acton (synthetic) Track when the course proper became unsafe for racing.

The programming of a further two races on the Acton Track on Melbourne Cup Day continues the phasing in process of synthetic track racing at Thoroughbred Park, home of the Canberra Racing Club.

The Club proposes to redevelop the course proper in 2005/2006 and during the redevelopment period, synthetic track racing will be a feature of Canberra racing.
