Shortly after the start DARK BRAZILIAN was steadied away from the heels of SIMPSON DESERT, which shifted in when not quite clear. Approaching the 900 metres DARK BRAZILIAN was hampered and carried wider on the track when RANSOM TIME shifted out whilst overracing. DARK BRAZILIAN and RANSOM TIME both overraced in the early and middle stages of the event. When questioned regarding the apparent poor performance of HEADSWELL, R. Silburn stated that his mount travelled well in an advantageous position but after straightening, when placed under pressure, the gelding found little and disappointed with its failure to find the line.
