A strong field is lining up for the Group III $200,000 Canberra Sayers Black Opal (1200m) after nominations were received this morning.
Al Samer is set for his debut start for new trainer Tim Martin. Al Samer dead heated for third in the Magic Million 2YO when trained by Graeme Rogerson, went for a spell and then was transferred to Martin's stable.
"It all depends on the barrier draw if he starts or not ,"s said Martin.
"If he does, Hugh Bowman will ride him."
Other Sydney horses due to head down include Billy Prain's Wrong Call, Graeme Rogerson's Dower, Anthony Cummings' Replicator and Zed Alert.
In-form trainer Kevin Moses has nominated Power Of Destiny, who won impressively last preparation at Randwick over 1200m.
The Danehill colt returned from a break but finished last of nine runners at Randwick on February 12 after having to stand in the gates for some time, when there was a delay at the start, resulting in him being slow away.
Jockey Brent Stanley stated that he had to ride
the horse along in the early stages after being slow away.
The pace then steadied mid-race but developed into a sprint home and Power Of
Destiny was unable to make any appreciable ground.
The colt is much better than that and should be able to put in a much improved performance on Saturday if he runs.
