RACE 1:MAIDEN PLATE            1200M

Trainer Mr M. Sparrow was advised that a warning would be placed on CADILLAC WALK when it proved difficult to be ridden to the barriers. EXTRA TERRESTIAL and RANDOM ENCOUNTER bumped heavily on jumping. GO LOUIE was slow to begin. Approaching the 1000 metres SHAKIN IN SEATTLE was bumped on two occasions by ORO BIANCO. Near the 200 metres ORO BIANCO was steadied when disappointed for a run between EXTRA TERRESTIAL and CADILLAC WALK. After the 800 metres DISCO TOUCH was checked when crowded to the inside of SHAKIN IN SEATTLE, which was taken in slightly by ORO BIANCO (J. Morris), which shifted in. Morris was advised to exercise more care. When questioned, M. A. Cahill stated that RANDOM ENCOUNTER overraced in the early stages of the event and approaching the 900 metres his saddle shifted forward, placing him at a distinct disadvantage throughout the remainder of the event. He added that after straightening his mount made an abnormal respiratory noise and, for this reason, he did not unduly pressure his mount in the run to the line. A veterinary examination of RANDOM ENCOUNTER found the gelding to have lacerations to the nearside hind.
