RACE 1: MAIDEN PLATE            1200M

App. B. Poile was fined $100 under LR70 when he claimed only 1½ half kilos of his 2 kilo allowance as the rider of THE PADSTER. PAGO MISS (C. Agnew) reared behind the barriers and dislodged its rider; it then galloped riderless around the outside of the course before being recaptured. It was withdrawn by Stewards at 12.21 p.m. who ordered all moneys invested on PAGO MISS be refunded and all successful wagers placed prior to 12.21 p.m. be paid less deductions of 12¢ win, 11¢ place and 25¢ quinella on the face value of the ticket. THE PADSTER and RAYANUI were slow to begin. RADICAL BAY overraced in the middle stages of the event. Near the 400 metres RADICAL BAY shifted out to improve and bumped heavily with BIG PICTURE, which became unbalanced. After the 200 metres POETIC RACER shifted out on two occasions and hampered PETROL HEAD, which was weakening. MONEY FOR NOTHIN shifted abruptly inwards to improve approaching the 100 metres.

RACE 2: MAIDEN PLATE            1600M

App. D. Langridge replaced K. Parkin (indisposed) as the rider of SHORTAN SHARP. G. Buckley replaced C. Reith (ill) as the rider of MISS DINGALING. C. Reith was advised that a medical clearance must be produced before he would be permitted to ride again. WEDGETAIL (R. Silburn) was very fractious in the mounting yard and dislodged its rider who appeared uninjured in the incident. Following this event R. Silburn reported slight soreness to his left shoulder, elbow and knee but he continued to fulfil his engagements throughout the day. Trainer Mr M. Warren was advised that a warning would be placed against the parade manners of WEDGETAIL. COLUMBAN and MISS DINGALING were slow to begin. SIMPSON DESERT raced very wide throughout. Approaching the 600 metres LARES was steadied and lost ground when it attempted to shift out after being held up behind SHORTAN SHARP and to the inside of MEDDLING MAGPIE. For some distance approaching the 400 metres COLUMBAN was held up and unable to improve when racing behind MISS SEKHMET and to the inside of LARES. For some distance between the 300 metres and the 200 metres WEDGETAIL was steadied when disappointed for a narrow run to the inside of ZOLEIGH.

RACE 3: TRANSITIONAL HANDICAP            1400M

BRAVE RUNNING, which was fractious in the barriers, was examined by the club’s veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start. NORM’S BRIDLE was slow to begin. EXRAY suffered a bleeding attack during the running of this event and is now banned from racing for a period of three months under AR53A.

RACE 4: CLASS FOUR HANDICAP            1000M

Trainer Ms T. Schmetzer was fined the sum of $50 under LR39 for failing to lodge a stable return for OUR SONG by the prescribed time. INDIAN CIGAR was slow to begin. Near the 150 metres APPERTAIN was steadied and shifted outwards after it rolled in and momentarily crowded MISTRIAL.

RACE 5 MAIDEN PLATE            1000M

Trainer Mr M. W. Smith was fined the sum of $50 under AR140A for presenting HEADSWELL to the mounting yard without a tongue tie, part of that gelding’s approved gear. MISS PICARD and HEADSWELL were slow to begin. FIESTA blundered shortly after jumping and lost considerable ground. TYCOON LADY hung out from the 800 metres until straightening. Trainer Mrs B. Joseph was advised that a warning would now be placed on TYCOON LADY. Approaching the 600 metres HEADSWELL, while overracing, shifted out and bumped FIESTA, which was carried out across the heels of SWEEP AGAIN. After straightening and again after the 200 metres FOREST LOVE was momentarily crowded to the inside of LADY DAVIDSON (S. Pollard), which shifted in. S. Pollard was shown a replay of the incident and advised to exercise more care.

RACE 6: OPEN HANDICAP            2000M

BANDARES and MACQUEEN overraced in the early and middle stages of the event. Near the 200 metres ELMO CRUSHER, which was weakening, bumped HASTY BELLE resulting in HASTY BELLE becoming unbalanced. BANDARES returned lame in the off foreleg. Trainer Ms M. Schmetzer was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness would be required before BANDARES would be permitted to race again.

RACE 7: CLASS TWO HANDICAP            1200M

TOUCH MOVE missed the start. ADVENTURE WALK raced fiercely until straightening. When questioned on the performance of GOLD WORKS A. Bloomfield stated that at its previous start at Queanbeyan on 23 April 2004 the horse had appreciated a fast pace and was able to obtain cover in the event and, as a result, found the line well. He added that today, with an uneven tempo, he travelled wide without cover and when pressured after straightening his mount failed to find the line and had disappointed. A veterinary examination of GOLD WORKS did not detect any abnormalities.

RACE 8: CLASS ONE HANDICAP            1400M

DISCO TOUCH was slow to begin. Approaching the 200 metres DISCO TOUCH was held up behind TINY TREASURE and to the inside of IMPETUANCE. Right on the winning post TINY TREASURE stumbled, shifted out and made contact with BUSH FLASH. After passing the winning post TINY TREASURE disarticulated its nearside fetlock joint and was later euthanased. The Club’s veterinary surgeon reported BUSH FLASH returned lame near hind. Trainer Mr A Howlett was advised a veterinary certificate of fitness would be required if was to continue with the gelding’s current preparation.
