DANELINE jumped inwards at the start and bumped ROYAL AROMA. DANELINE also overraced during the early stages and was let stride from the 800m. ANGEL’S GLORY was momentarily crowded when racing between POLJICA and ROYAL AROMA near the 600m and was steadied. POLJICA became unbalanced rounding the home turn and struck the running rail on two occasions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that SCACCO MATTO had bled from both nostrils and as this had been the second occasion that SCACCO MATTO had bled, trainer representative Mr S Murrell was advised that SCACCO MATTO was now barred from racing for life.

Approaching the 650m KIRCH BEAUTY began to hang in despite the efforts of its rider and in so doing severely crowded SMOKE AND MIRRORS which was checked. On straightening SMOKE AND MIRRORS was checked from the heels of MUTOLA which was under pressure and losing ground. SMOKE AND MIRRORS then shifted in and bumped KIRCH BEAUTY resulting in both runners becoming unbalanced.

RACE 5: CAROMA CLASS 2 HCP 1712M

Trainer Mr R Haire was fined the sum of $50 under AR8(e) for failing to confirm with jockey A Nicholls for the ride on LIFT YOUR GAME. Subsequently A Nicholls was unable to take that ride due to overweight and was replaced, due to unavailability of senior riders, by apprentice J Walton. WIDDEN WONDER became awkwardly placed on the heels of LINEBREAKER near the 300m. LINEBREAKER at this stage was under pressure and losing ground and when WIDDEN WONDER was checked, shifted out and bumped TOP DOWN which became momentarily unbalanced. Stewards questioned trainer D Schmidt as to the reason why PEKAN ROSE led in her race today and he advised that his intentions were to ride PEKAN ROSE back off the pace but seeing that this had been the mare’s first race in blinkers, he believed that she became fired up when racing in blinkers and therefore jockey M Paget had no alternative other than to let the mare stride. Stewards will consider a request from Mr Schmidt at a future date as to the removal of the blinkers from PEKAN ROSE.
