An OFFICIAL BARRIER TRIAL was conducted over 1000m prior to the first race, in which 10 horses participated.
RACE 1 MAIDEN PLATE 1400M
MADAM DANE was slow to begin then shifted outwards abruptly, dislodging it’s rider J. Whitney, who was uninjured… TOM MAC and BOOKANOOKLE were both slow to begin… TOM MAC over-raced in the early and middle stages… Passing the 300 metres BOOKANOOKLE steadied to avoid the heels of EASY AS YOU LIKE which was weakening… A subsequent veterinary examination of EASY AS YOU LIKE, which was tailed off, revealed no apparent abnormality… Stewards advised Mr W. Bowditch, trainer of EASY AS YOU LIKE, that this mare would be required to trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again…
RACE 2 CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1200M
GO TILL DAWN was withdrawn at 12.10pm by order of the Stewards, when Trainer D.P. Blundell was unable to produce the Document of Description for the gelding when required… PINDARRI’S FORTUNE half reared as the gates opened and was slow to begin… Approaching the 900 metres COMEBACK QUEEN shifted in onto ROSE KOPELLA which resulted in TURF RAIDER and CONSULAR MISS being steadied… Approaching the 100 metres QUIZZER was disappointed for clear running when attempting to take a narrow opening between ATOMIC LADY and PINDARRI’S FORTUNE when ATOMIC LADY rolled outwards… QUIZZER struck heels at this stage and was forced to check…
RACE 3 CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1000M
SHE’S SHAMELESS and DARK ENOUGH were both slow to begin… IGNA raced greenly in the home straight and lugged outwards passing the 200 metres…
RACE 4 CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1400M
Stewards withdrew MOLLYMAR at the barrier acting on veterinary advice at 3.29pm, when the mare was found to be lame in the off foreleg… Stewards ruled all monies invested on MOLLYMAR were to be refunded, with all successful win and place wagers made prior to the withdrawal to be paid less 6 cents in the dollar on win bets, and 7 cents in the dollar on place bets… Ms C. Brindley, trainer of MOLLYMAR, was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness would be required prior to MOLLYMAR racing again… TUSCAN LASS was slow to begin… Passing the 50 metres TUSCAN LASS laid inwards and brushed RUN FAST…
RACE 5 OPEN HANDICAP 1000M
ALPINE LASS jumped awkwardly outwards and crowded BOGAN BELLE and BIG POONGA… ALPINE LASS was held up for clear running approaching the 400 metres, and over the concluding stages laid inwards and brushed with DEL BOCA VISTA…
