Race 2 - Sine Industries Handicap (1200m)

Squish shifted out at the start and bumped Bollinger. As a result, Belle Mardi was hampered and taken out onto Daka's Handout and Fawayez. Near the 600m Private Steer was crowded and became unbalanced when Fawayez shifted in. Fawayez and Private Steer then bumped for some distance as Pivate Steer improved to the outside of Squish. At the entrance to the straight Pivate Steer was briefly held up on the heels of Squish and was obliged to shift out across heels to obtain clear running. When questioned about the disappointing performance of Interlagos D.Beadman said the filly raced wide in the early stages but travelled well. He said that after shifting to the inside on the home turn to save ground, he put the filly under pressure and it was disappointing in its failure to run on. Stable foreman Mr P.Snowden said that in his opinion Interlagos is looking for more ground. A post-race veterinary examination of Interlagos revealed no abnormality.

Race 3 - Data Global Technologies Handicap (1200m)

Shalang jumped awkwardly and lost ground. On jumping, Samar and Acacia Bay bumped.

S.Marshall was advised to ensure in similar circumstances that he leaves sufficient racing room for runners to his inside.

A post-race veterinary examination revealed that Birubi Ella had sustained a laceration to the near hind fetlock. Trainer Mrs K.Dyble was asked to produce a veterinary clearance for Birubi Ella before the filly races again.

A post-race veterinary examination of Delissa revealed no abnormality.

When questioned about the disappointing performance of Daphne's Rose, App.J.Ford said the mare never felt comfortable in her action, did not respond to his riding at any stage, and in his opinion was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of Daphne's Rose revealed no abnormality. Trainer Mrs D.Matangi advised the stewards that Daphne's Rose will now be retired.

Race 5 - Gerard Malouf Lawyers Handicap (1200m)

Brecon Rose was slow to begin and lost its near fore plate in running.

Near the 500m En Bateau had to be steadied off the heels of Bridgee Boo, which commenced to weaken.

As Rosa Marada attempted to improve to the outside of Brecon Rose at the entrance to the straight, it was disappointed for a run between that filly and En Bateau.

Near the 200m Rosa Marada was disappointed for a run between Doreen Jewel and En Bateau.

Approaching the 200m Amitaba had to be steadied when crowded between Punton Danehill (D.Beadman), which shifted out under pressure, and Hasty Belle. D.Beadman was reprimanded and told that in similar circumstances he must make more of an effort to keep his mount straight than he did on this occasion.

Near the 50m Amitaba again had to be steadied when crowded between Punton Danehill and Hasty Belle (Miss R.Freeman), which shifted in slightly. Miss Freeman was advised to exercise more care.

When questioned about the improved performance of the winner, Thirio, compared with its last start when ninth of twelve at Canterbury Park on 14 August, trainer Mr T. Martin said that in his opinion the gelding over-raced on that occasion and for that reason he removed the blinkers today, and that he attributed that change to Thirio settling better today and consequently being able to finish off the race.

At the entrance to the straight Lion Rock had to be steadied when Tussac Flyer, which was tiring, shifted out.

When questioned about the poor performance of Raise A King, J.Cassidy could offer no tangible explanation other than that in his opinion the gelding, which was stepping up in distance today, did not travel well at any stage after racing wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination of Raise A King revealed no abnormality.

Mr S.Englebrecht, the trainer of French Raven, which went forward today, explained that from a wide barrier and stepping up in distance, his instructions were to ride the gelding more forward today.
