RACE 1: MERCEDES BENZ CLK COUPE MAIDEN HCP E & G 1250M

CELTIC RAYwas slow to begin. BISCAY FLYER jumped awkwardly and then from the 400m began to lose ground whilst under pressure and in the straight failed to run on. Trainer R Graham has advised Stewards that his intention with BISCAY FLYER is to spell the gelding. PRINCE MARSCAY was held up rounding the home turn and for the majority of the straight shifting out only over the final stages to obtain clear running. CASH ON THE BAR shifted out on straightening and momentarily hampered KIRKBY LODGE then over the final stages CASH ON THE BAR lay in whilst under pressure and hampered LINTOLA which was steadied.

RACE 2: MERCEDES-BENZ SL TRANSITIONAL HCP 1600M

Jockey B Pengelly was fined the sum of $200 when found to have accepted the ride on CARMONA KING when overweight under AR120(b) and was subsequently replaced on CARMONA KING by D Spriggs. Following a report from the Clerk of Scales, jockey B Pengelly pleaded guilty to a charge of negligence under AR8(e) in that he presented himself at scale to weigh out without his protective vest and was subsequently fined the sum of $400. HALF HOLY stood flat footed when the field was released losing considerable ground. Trainer D Peisley could offer little excuse for HALF HOLY standing in the barriers and was subsequently instructed that the gelding would have to trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before starting again. CARMONA KING was held up for clear running for the majority of the straight.

1ST: OPERA’S REWARD; 2ND: LEG IRONS; 3RD: CARMONA KING

RACE 3: TAREE MOTORAMA MAIDEN HCP 1600M

CORONARY was slow to begin. NICELY BALANCED lay in near the 1200m and bumped THE KURRI BULLDOG resulting in both runners becoming unbalanced. KHANPERRA was steadied approaching the 1300m and then shifted out after becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of KOMON LEE. Apprentice J Walton (ANOTHER OVER) was admonished for failing to ride the gelding out to the line to the best of his ability.

1ST: LEGERDEMAIN; 2ND: POETIC NIJINSKY; 3RD: KHANPERRA

RACE 4: TAREE MOTORAMA OPEN HCP 1000M

Jockey P Graham (MARFOO STAR (NZ)) was instructed to exercise more care when nearing the 600m his mount lay in and momentarily crowded KWILA onto CHILE DAPPER and SINBAD THE SAILOR resulting in SINBAD THE SAILOR having to steady.

1ST: EL LAHON; 2ND: MARFOO STAR (NZ); 3RD: CHILE DAPPER

RACE 5: MERCEDES-BENZ A-CLASS MAIDEN HCP F & M 1250M

Apprentice K Goodyear (injured) was replaced on SHUTTLE LASS by apprentice V Tearle. BROADWAY FLYER knuckled over at the start shifted out and hampered SINTEGRA. ELUSIVE BEL hung out shortly after the start and crowded BROADWAY FLYER onto SINTEGRA. BROADWAY FLYER when overracing approaching the 1000m became awkwardly placed between KEEN TIME and ELUSIVE BEL and was steadied. Approaching the 600m SINTEGRA became unbalanced, shifted out and crowded FOREVER ROMEO onto the heels of KEEN TIME which was under pressure and losing ground resulting in FOREVER ROMEO becoming unbalanced then shortly after OFFICE GOSSIP became awkwardly placed on the heels of KEEN TIME and was checked wider on the track.

1ST: CHANNON SPIRIT; 2ND: OFFICE GOSSIP; 3RD: DUSTELLA

RACE 6: MERCEDES-BENZ C-CLASS CLASS 2 HCP E & G 1300M

DESK jumped outwards when released and bumped GUNNERY. KINGSLEY JAMES lay in over the final stages across the heels of WILLY NILLY obliging jockey J Lee to stop and straighten the gelding.

1ST: WILLY NILLY; 2ND: GUNNERY; 3RD: KINGSLEY JAMES

RACE 7: MERCEDES-BENZ SLK ROADSTER CLASS 2 HCP F & M 1300M

T Phillips (misunderstanding) was replaced on FUNNY LASS by J Lee. No incidents.

1ST: ROMAN SPLENDOUR; 2ND: ON CENTRE STAGE; 3RD: JAMORA

RACE 8: MERCEDES-BENZ M-CLASS CLASS 4 HCP 1250M

M Squires (ill) was replaced on HANDY OSCAR by B Compton. Both NETTLES and ROCKLILY were slow to begin. Jockey M Paget (ADVISORY COUNCIL) was found guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that nearing the 1000m he allowed his mount to shift inwards and in doing so caused MR. PROFESSIONAL, SPY’S ECLIPSE and NIGHT TO DAY all to be crowded resulting in SPY’S ECLIPSE being checked and losing its rightful running. Jockey Paget’s licence to ride in races was suspended from 19th August 2002 until 27th August 2002 on which day he may ride. HANDY OSCAR was crowded shortly after the 1000m and became unbalanced. NETTLES was held up for clear running rounding the home turn and on straightening when racing to the inside of SPY’S ECLIPSE. ADVISORY COUNCIL was steadied close to the line from the heels of SPIRIT OF AMERICA which shifted in under pressure and MR. PROFESSIONAL which momentarily rolled out. Stable representative R Davies reported post-race that MR. PROFESSIONAL had sustained a laceration to the near hind pastern.
