RACE 1 – Tyco Fire Monitoring Maiden Plate 1500m

Shortly after the start Bangaroo was crowded for room between Cotton Queen and Shy King which was taken out by Coronet Lass.

Shortly after straightening Birubi Eyed, which was racing erratically, shifted out abruptly and was checked away from the heels of Jewel Time which shifted in slightly when tiring. Naturally, which was following, was steadied in consequence.

RACE 2 – Tupperware Provincial Class 1 & Maiden Plate 1850m

When the pace slowed near the 900m Upper Heights commenced to pull hard and got its head up.

Midst had difficulty obtaining clear running in the straight.

Apprentice T Muto (Shalcroud) accidentally dropped his whip near the 50m.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of Noble Bid, apprentice R Freeman stated that her instructions were to be in a handy position, however after beginning only fairly she slapped the mare up and Noble Bid commenced to overrace. She said when the pace slowed near the 1000m she was unable to hold Noble Bid back in the field and the mare consequently pulled its way to the lead. Apprentice Freeman attributed these reasons for Noble Bid’s poor performance. A post race veterinary examination of Noble Bid did not reveal any abnormalities.

Mister Daylight lost both front shoes in running.

RACE 3 – Wormald Gosford Maiden Plate 900m

Brief Reply, which became fractious and reared over backwards while parading in the enclosure, was withdrawn by order of the stewards at 1.42pm. Stewards subsequently ordered that all monies wagered on Brief Reply be refunded in full and with regard to betting with bookmakers all successful wagers to be subject to the following deductions in the dollar on the face value of the ticket: win and traditional each way, two cents win and three cents place. Trainer M Dwyer was advised that before Brief Reply is permitted to race again it must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the stewards.

Glory Jo and Itanabit were slow to begin.

Poetic Troubador raced greenly in the early stages.

Rounding the home turn Rose Petal was briefly held up for clear running.

Dame Tristram was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight and proved difficult to ride.

RACE 4 – Wormald Singleton Maiden Plate 1300m

Ari’s Arsenal and Rosso which were fractious in the barriers were examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to race.

Adelong, which was very fractious in the barriers, reared up and made heavy contact with the barrier partition. Acting on veterinary advice that Adelong was unfit to start, stewards ordered its withdrawal at 2.24pm. Stewards subsequently ordered that all monies wagered on Adelong be refunded in full and with regard to betting with bookmakers all successful wagers to be subject to the following deductions in the dollar on the face value of the ticket: win and traditional each way, two cents win and three cents place. Mr K Lees, representing trainer M Lees, was advised that a warning would be placed on the barrier manners of Adelong.

Rosso, which jumped away awkwardly, overraced in the early stages and near the 800m when being checked off the heels of Danabay shifted out abruptly and lost ground.

Mr P Dombkins was advised that a warning would be placed on the barrier manners and racing manners of Rosso.

Ari’s Arsenal laid in when under pressure in the straight.

Over the concluding stages Thunder Warning was steadied away from the heels of Fietinski (L Olsen) which shifted in slightly whilst under pressure. L Olsen was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.

RACE 5 – Nova Provincial Class 4 Plate 1600m

Zigany was slow into stride.

Daydream Star overraced in the early stages.

At the entrance to the straight Zigany was momentarily disappointed for clear running.

RACE 6 – Haden Transitional 1200m

Alassany was fractious in the gates prior to the start. As the gates were released Intrepid Boy got its head down and as such was slow into stride.

Approaching the first turn Our Survivor, which was racing fiercely, shifted out bumping Sea Jester with both these runners becoming unbalanced.

Near the 600m Gyarran dipped. Tardio, Intrepid Boy and Gyrran were all blocked for clear runs in the straight.

S Pollard, rider of sixth placegetter Wisp, was fined $25 under AR 144 for failing to weight in.

When questioned regarding her riding of Tardio in the straight apprentice R Freeman stated that after initially being checked at the entrance to the straight she raced close to the heels of Our Survivor for some distance approaching the 200m. she said that after the 200m Tardio shifted to the inside of Our Survivor and for some distance thereafter she was racing close to heels between Intrepid Boy and Our Survivor. She said near the 100m she shifted to the outside of Our Survivor to obtain clear running between that gelding and Knockdown Power. She said from thereon with clear running Tardio found the line strongly. Apprentice R Freeman agreed with the stewards that she had erred in not coming to the outside of Our Survivor earlier than she did to obtain clear running. Apprentice Freeman was reprimanded and advised that she would be expected to place her mount in a position where they have the best possible chance.

Jockey D Spriggs (Intrepid Boy) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR 137(a) in that near the 400m he permitted his mount to shift inwards when insufficiently clear of Tardio resulting in that gelding being checked and losing its rightful running. D Spriggs’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Wednesday, 28 August 2002 and to expire on Wednesday 4 September 2002 on which day he may ride.

An inquiry into the reasons for Sea Jester and Win Here Win There being crowded near the winning post was adjourned to a date to be fixed. M Scorse will be interviewed as to why he left the course without permission.

RACE 7 – Wormald Class 1 Cup 1200m

Brother Of Danny threw its head at the start losing ground.

Jibena was slow into stride.

Passing the 700m when being steadied away from the heels of Annie Success Indigestion veered out abruptly taking Silly Mistake wider.

Mr Frown hung out under pressure over the final 100 metres.

A post race veterinary examination of Jibena did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 8 – Wormald Silverwater Class 2 Handicap 1400m

Southgate was slow into stride.

Near the 1300m Magilas and Your Day were crowded and became unbalanced when Kinky Miss (N Cumberland) shifted in when not quite clear. N Cumberland was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.

Approaching the first turn Hickory Snip, which was inclined to pull hard, was steadied away from the heels of Kinky Miss when that mare shifted in slightly.

Strabo was badly held up for clear running until inside the 100m.

Gold Banker was blocked for a run until 250m and near that point shifted out and bumped the tiring Hickory Snip.

A post race veterinary examination of Magilas, which raced wide through out, did not reveal any abnormalities.

Jockey N Paine stated that Magilas did not travel at any stage throughout the race and in his opinion was disappointing in its failure to run on. Trainer G Waterhouse will be questioned regarding Magilas’s immediate racing future.
