GENERAL:

Acting on a report from STC Track Supervisor Mr W Dale, licensed trainer Ms P. Webber was officially notified that on non-fast days, Wednesdays and Fridays, she must notify a delegated track official prior to galloping horses.

Race 1 Gold Plate Transitional Handicap 2400m:

Trainer Mrs G. Waterhouse reported that a full veterinary check of Laguna Lake, which raced disappointingly, did not reveal any abnormality. She advised, however, that Laguna Lake had now been spelled.

RACE 1: Clubs NSW / Club Keno Handicap 1400m:

Takas was fractious in the barriers.

Russell On was slow to begin.

At the start Civics ran out and hampered Mission Statement.

Russell On overraced in the early stages.

A post-race veterinary examination revealed Takas had sustained a graze to the lateral off-hind hock.

RACE 2: Smithfield RSL Club Handicap 1500m:

Size Her Up and Dark Blue overraced badly in the middle stages.

J. Cassidy (All Elegance) was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in shortly after the start resulting in Go Ziggy being checked.

RACE 3: Merrylands RSL Club Handicap 1400m:

Moon Point, which had blood in its mouth, was examined at the barrier and found to have sustained a small cut to its tongue, however, was passed fit to start.

Ms Bowie was slow to begin.

Polar North got its head up when being restrained in the early stages.

Approaching the 250m Moon Point ran out abruptly away from Fuji Cee Rocks and bumped Polar North.

RACE 4: Mounties Superfecta 1100m:

Trainer Mr P. Sutherland was fined $50 for presenting Oxford Princess in the enclosure without blinkers, part of its approved gear (AR140A).

At the start Stylish Crown shifted out causing Charlie Bub to be hampered.

At the entrance to the straight King Cappo made contact with Tom Coureuse when disappointed for a run between Tom Coureuse and Scintillation, and did not obtain clear running until passing the 200m.

Scintillation suffered a bleeding attack during the event. As this was the second occasion on which Scintillation had bled the gelding was banned from racing forever (AR53A).

A post-race veterinary examination revealed Oxford Princess was displaying a poor recovery rate and had aggravated an old wound to the near-side hip. A swab sample was taken. Mr P. Sutherland trainer of Oxford Princess, which raced disappointingly, stated that subject to a full veterinary examination it was his intention to recommend that Oxford Princess be spelled. The inquiry was adjourned pending that advice.

RACE 5: Fairfield RSL Club Grey Stars Handicap 1300m:

Close to the finish line A Deena had to steady from the heels of Cariboo.

An inquiry into the reason for Sacra Clause being checked and A Deena being crowded near the 1100m was adjourned to later in the day.

C. Brown (Cariboo) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear after passing the 1200m resulting in A Deena being crowded in onto Sacra Clause, which lost its rightful running.

C. Brown's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on 25/8/02 and to expire on 6/9/02 on which day he may ride.

RACE 6: Bankstown Sports Club Premiere Stakes 1200m:

J. Sheehan, rider of the winner, Century Kid, was fined $100 for making a celebratory gesture prior to the winning post (AR137(c)).

RACE 7: Canterbury-Hurlstone Park RSL Club Handicap 1900m:

Gillespie was slow to begin.

Halls Of Assembly, Danyon and Midnight Avenue were held up for runs in the early part of the straight.

Passing the 200m Gamesman was struck across the nose by the whip of C. Munce (Master Pom).

A post-race veterinary examination of Gamesman did not reveal any abnormality.

When questioned regarding the performance of Gamesman, L. Beasley stated that he had to make a good deal of use of his horse, which was having its first start for four weeks, to get across and obtain a forward position and as a result Gamesman did not run out the 1900m journey.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of Master Pom, C. Munce stated that today the gelding was unsuited when it was under early pressure to lead and under its big weight of 60kgs the effort in his opinion took its toll.

RACE 8: Sydney Markets / Lidcombe RSL Superfecta 1300m:

Approaching the first turn Brantwood Manor, when being checked off the heels of Sammuka, shifted out taking Pourquoi and Georgie Boy wider.

At the entrance to the straight  The Man was inclined to lay in behind the heels of Pourquoi.

B. Cooper (The Man) stated that she had intended to take up an off-pace position, but from its wide barrier The Man did not show its normal early speed and got further back than intended.
