Champion Filly Back With a Victory

r3bedemurray.jpg (8377 bytes)Last season's champion two year old Victory Vein (2001 Sires Produce PI$32,500) returned to racing at Warwick Farm on Saturday with all the style and professionalism we have come to expect.

She paraded beforehand in her usual relaxed fashion, albeit slightly taller and with the air of a filly who knows just what is required.

The AJC Silver Shadow Stakes Gr 2 is the first step in the Princess Series and judging by Victory Vein's performance, she will be the "princess" they all have to beat.

The Bede Murray trained filly settled beautifully, before dashing clear in the straight for Danny Beasley, who later declared her the best horse he has ridden.

"If she has one characteristic, itÂ’s that she does everything in such an effortless fashion," said Beasley.

Victory Vein will progress through the Princess Series, before heading to Melbourne for the 1000 Guineas at Caulfield and possibly a tilt at the VRC Oaks. On face value her pedigree would suggest some doubt about her ability to run 2500 metres.

But as we all know the three year old classics are often won by the best horse, rather than the best stayer. Quality is the deciding factor at set weights and Victory Vein has that fine attribute in spades!
