3 Swab samples were taken from various runners at random.

RACE ONE: MAIDEN PLATE 1000 METRES.

FLOSS was slowly away.

1st) TANGERINE SKY 2nd) WRIGLEY’S CROSSING 3rd) SOUTHERN CLOUD 4th) HURRICANE COURTNEY

RACE TWO: CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1400 METRES.

MISS JESSIE and LORD JESTER were crowded at the start between BRED FOR BATTLE and LA JAASI. From the 800m to the 500m SCRATCH was awkwardly placed and was unable to improve losing ground. BIG SQUATTER hung in over the concluding stages. Following the running of this race the track was downgraded to dead.

1st) RACE TO SPACE 2nd) LA JAASI 3rd) BIG SQUATTER 4th) SCRATCH

RACE THREE: MAIDEN PLATE 1200 METRES.

ACROSS THE ICE was very slowly away. THE LAST CHIMES was checked shortly after the start by COLLUSIO which was crowded by LORD HILTON which began awkwardly and shifted in. COLLUSIO over raced in the early stages and near the 900m bumped SHE’S SWEET on the hindquarters. Near the 800m SHE’S SWEET was checked when crowded by MISTY NIGHT which was taken in by NO OTHER NAME (S Pawsey) which shifted in whilst hanging. In the circumstances S Pawsey was severely reprimanded and advised that in future he would be expected to make a greater effort to prevent his mounts from shifting ground. A post race veterinary examination of SHE’S SWEET revealed no obvious abnormality.

RACE FOUR: TRANSITIONAL HANDICAP 1800 METRES.

HILLTOP LASS underwent a veterinary examination prior to the race and was passed fit to start. NORWEST STAR was very slowly away and then was uncompetitive throughout. Trainer Mr G Hook was advised that NORWEST STAR would be required to trial to the stewards satisfaction prior to the mare being permitted to start in a race again. Near the 1100m BARNARD’S CASTLE was steadied when crowded by TRUST NO ONE which was taken in by PRINCE COLOGNE (App B Timmis) which shifted in. B Timmis was reprimanded.

RACE FIVE: CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1200 METRES.

FLASH AND DASH hung in when under pressure in the straight. When questioned S Pawsey (SEATTLE ZEPHYR) explained that the gelding failed to respond when under pressure near the 600m and was disappointing. Trainer Mr G Kelly could offer no excuses for the performance of the gelding however undertook to report of any abnormality with the horse should it arise subsequent to the race.
