Shortly after this ROYAL WIT again had to be steadied to avoid the heels of SAVING TIME, which was carried in slightly by SHALCROUD, which was taken in by STANDS ALONE, which shifted in slightly. When questioned in relation to his ride on SAVING TIME, A Robinson explained that after establishing a mid-field position in the early and middle stages in accordance with its most recent start the mare failed to travel at any stage of the race and passing the 700M commenced to hang out quite badly, which placed him at a disadvantage. He said that from that point he was unable to ride with any vigour due to the mare’s waywardness and passing the 200M when he was able to place SAVING TIME under some pressure with the whip, the mare failed to respond and ran to the finish, in his opinion, in a disappointing manner. Licensed foreman, Mr C Swan, deputising for trainer Mr M Lees said that a forward showing was expected from SAVING TIME today and could offer no explanation for the poor performance. He said that in his opinion SAVING TIME had pulled up well, however he was unsure of Mr Lees’ plans for SAVING TIME’s future preparation. A post-race veterinary examination of SAVING TIME failed to reveal any obvious abnormality. Trainer Mr M Lees will be contacted in relation to his plans for SAVING TIME.
