RACE ONE: CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1000 METRES.

PETER PERFECT was slowly away. LUCIFER’S DOUBLE hung out after the 200m and near the 50m was eased away from the heels of TRIMEN. When questioned regarding the apparent improved performance of TRIMEN trainer Mr M Wales explained that at its most recent start at Louth the gelding resented racing in behind horses on the sandy surface and in his opinion the horse also did not appear to travel well from Louth. He added that he freshened the gelding up and as was the case at Louth the horse was supported today.

RACE TWO: CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1000 METRES.

KAPCREST was crowded at the start between SPEEDY SPICE and PIRATE SPY.

1st) MR. COMEDY 2nd) PIRATE SPY 3rd) STAR COUNTESS 4th) KAPCREST

RACE THREE: TRANSITIONAL HANDICAP 1400 METRES.

GOMULKA was slowly away. BOLD DRUMMER over raced in the early and middle stages. When questioned G Ryan (JABAR) explained that the gelding hung out severely after locking its jaw and as a result he was obliged to retire the horse from the race. A post race veterinary examination of JABAR revealed no obvious abnormality. Trainer Mr J Johnson was advised that JABAR would be required to trial to the stewards satisfaction prior to the gelding being permitted to start in a race again. Mr Johnson was also undertook to report of any abnormality with the gelding should it arise subsequent to the race.

1st) ASPEN ANGEL 2nd) CRAZY RAY 3rd) FOREST BEND 4th) GOMULKA

RACE FOUR: E & G MAIDEN HANDICAP 1300 METRES.

SADDLE THE WIND underwent a veterinary examination prior to the race and was passed fit to start. When questioned G Ryan (SUPERBEEL) explained that in his opinion the horse felt awkward in its action and near the 1000m the horse felt sore and for this reason he eased the horse out of the race. A post race veterinary examination of SUPERBEEL did not reveal any obvious abnormality. Trainer Mrs L Aspros was advised that SUPERBEEL would be required to trial to the stewards satisfaction prior to the horse being permitted to start in a race again. After passing the winning post LE LEGIONAIRE broke down in the off side fore leg. Trainer Mr J Brasch was advised that a veterinary certificate of suitability for racing would be required prior to the gelding being permitted to start in a race again. Near the 900m LE LEIGIONARE was crowded by SUPERBEEL which shifted in. HIGHRON was held up and unable to improve approaching the home turn.

RACE FIVE: F & M MAIDEN HANDICAP 1300 METRES.

ROBING underwent a veterinary examination prior to the race and was passed fit to start. DANE PATTY was slowly away. JACALI over raced in the middle stages. BEAUFORT COTTAGE hung out and raced wide throughout. Trainer Mr J Dunn was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare. CHARLOTTE STARS hung out when under pressure in the straight proving difficult to ride out. Trainer Mr J Roberts was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare. A post race veterinary examination of CARINA GOLD revealed the mare may have sustained a fractured nasal bone in the enclosure after the race was bleeding from the nostrils. On the advice of the veterinarian that CARINA GOLD had bled as a result of external trauma no action was taken.

1st) SONG OF UNBRIDLED 2nd) SOUTHERN COMMAND 3rd) JACALI 4th) CARINA GOLD

RACE SIX: OPEN HANDICAP 1200 METRES.

TREE LOPPER was slowly away. TREE LOPPER over raced in the early and middle stages and was awkwardly placed inside the heels of STAGE CALL. Over the concluding stages TREE LOPPER raced tight inside FOXWOOD BAY. When questioned M A Cahill (AMOUROUS) explained that the mare travelled well however failed to run on as expected when under pressure in the straight. A post race veterinary examination of AMOUROUS revealed the mare was heavily in season.

1st) DAUNTING THOUGHT 2nd) CAUGHT AT DAWN 3rd) FOXWOOD BAY 4th) STAGE CALL

RACE SEVEN: CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1400 METRES.

RESTLESS PULSE was slowly away and then over raced and got its head up in the early and middle stages and was checked away from the heels of OUR MATE JACK near the 1100m and AVOW near the 1000m. From the 1000m to the 800m COLDAZZ raced tight inside DUPED AGAIN and then MONT BLANC MAGIC. ELMO BEACH over raced in the early and middle stages. AVOW was held up and unable to improve from the 600m to the 300m. Near the 200m RESTLESS PULSE was eased when inconvenienced by ELMO BEACH which shifted ground slightly.

1st) BALQUAHAIN 2nd) TACTICA 3rd) RESTLESS PULSE 4th) DUPED AGAIN

RACE EIGHT: CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1000 METRES.

LONELY PLANET was hampered at the start when the outside gate of the barrier rebounded. Near the 500m MONKEY BOY was eased away from the heels of WATCH THE TIME. LONELY PLANET hung in when under pressure in the straight. When questioned B Stanley (BERAH) explained that the gelding travelled well throughout and when placed under pressure in the straight the gelding ran on only fairly however compounded badly over the concluding stages. A post race veterinary examination of BERAH revealed the gelding was displaying signs of lower airway trouble. Trainer Mr M Johnston was advised that he would be required to produce a veterinary certificate of suitability for racing including the results of an endoscopic examination prior to the horse being permitted to start in a again.
