RACE 1 – Pineworks™ Maiden Handicap (Div 2) 1200m

Apprentice R Freeman was fined $50 for negligently failing to produce her letter of authority. Suva and Emmalegend were slow to begin. Defuse overraced, got its head up and laid in during the early and middle stages. For a short distance after straightening Defuse was steadied off the heels of Keen Time. In the straight Charlotte Stars hung out. Pie Eyed did not obtain clear running in the straight and close to the winning post was steadied to avoid the heels of Carnegie Dancer (G Ryan) which whilst laying out shifted out abruptly. G Ryan was advised in similar circumstances he should exercise more care.

RACE 2 – Stylewood™ Restricted Maiden Handicap 1100m

On jumping Silly Mistake shifted out hampering Bow’s Law. Bow’s Law had difficulty obtaining clear running until 100m. Calhoun hung out in the straight and over the concluding stages shifted out abruptly under pressure. Trainer P Sutherland will be interviewed regarding the racing manners of Calhoun.

RACE 3 – Silent Floor™ Maiden Handicap (Div 1) 1200m

Go Rapper was slow to begin. Riding Master blundered on jumping. Rosso jumped awkwardly, shifted out and bumped Blue Patriarch.

RACE 4 – Rhino Termi-Nator™ Class 4 Plate 2100m

Pentone, which struck its off hind leg leaving the enclosure, was examined behind the barriers and passed fit to race. The saddle on Jadana shifted forward passing the 1400m resulting in its rider being disadvantaged. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion Bara’s Thunder and Rotton Ron were momentarily tightened for room by Azzeal (B Stanley) which shifted in. B Stanley was advised to exercise more care. Jockey R M Quinn explained that Rain Statesman enjoyed a good run in the race and he was unable to offer any tangible explanation for the gelding’s poor performance. Trainer V Thompson advised that in his opinion Rain Statesman raced like a tired horse and now will be sent for a spell. A post race veterinary examination of Rain Statesman did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 5 – Ironwood™ Outdoor Treated Pine Class 1 Handicap 1600m

Shortly after straightening Azzam Valley shifted to the inside of the heels of Charnwood Channon however did not establish running and consequently in the straight was held up and could not be tested. Upper Heights was held up for a short distance after straightening. Zatso did not obtain clear running in the straight. A post race veterinary examination of Skased, which performed disappointingly, revealed the gelding to be displaying a cardiac abnormality. Trainer Mr P Perry was advised that before Skased is permitted to race again he must produce a satisfactory veterinary clearance, including the results of an ECG.

RACE 6 – Silent Floor™ Transitional Handicap 1200m

Wardsky, which was ridden back in the field today as per the pre-race advice from the stable, was unable to obtain clear running until over the concluding stages.

RACE 7 – Rhino™ Class 4 Plate 1100m

Soul Singer was tightened at the start by King Cappo which shifted in. near the 600m The Ignation was steadied to avoid the heels of King Cappo (C Munce) which shifted in. C Munce was advised to exercise more care. Rounding the home turn Beamer became momentarily unbalanced when bumped by King Cappo.

RACE 8 – Ironwood™ Landscape Treated Pine Class 2 Handicap 1100m

Passing the 200m Miss Chivas, which was tiring, was steadied to avoid the heels of Sea Time (M Squires) which shifted out. M Squires was reprimanded. Beau Cheval which was following was steadied in consequence. Over the concluding stages Naberzox was steadied when crowded for room between Spy’s Eclipse and Little Rumours which shifted out abruptly away from Miss Chivas. A Abrahams (Campaignor) explained that when under pressure in the straight the gelding commenced to lay out and for this reason proved difficult for him to ride. He said over the concluding stages he had to steady off Bounty Niaga in order to obtain clear running. M Squires (Sea Time) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that shortly after the start he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Little Rumours causing that runner to clip the heels of Sea Time, blunder, and in turn cause some crowding to Miss Chivas. M Squires’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Thursday, 8 August 2002, and to expire on Sunday, 18 August 2002, on which day he may ride.
