Conair Bolts Home in Wyong Cup Prelude

Jetball gelding Conair is on track for the $153,200 Wyong Gold Cup on September 5, after a runaway win in today's Gold Cup Prelude at the same track.

The Gerald Ryan trained seven-year-old made today's $20,000 event over 1600 metres a one act affair, setting a race record in his three and a quarter length success.

Starting at $7.50, Conair proved much too good for the $5.50 chance Space Age, while Trackball ($9) was third. The $3.20 favourite Desert Brigadier could managed to finish only sixth.

Conair covered the 1600 metres in 1 minute 39.95 seconds, a new race record time, and was ridden by the Sydney premiership winning rider Corey Brown.

The Wyong Rugby League Club Wyong Gold Cup (2100m) will be run in three weeks time and today's winner is exempt from the ballot along with the winners of the Taree and Coffs Harbour Cup and the winners and placegetters of the Spring Quality and Premier's Cup in Sydney.
