Race 1 – Sutherland Shire Tile Supplies – Matt Howarth Plate

Desperation and Stylise were slow to begin. Tengpoche hung out making the home turn. Desperation laid out under pressure in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination of Courting, which weakened over the concluding stages, revealed that blood was present in both nostrils. As this was the second time Courting had bled, trainer Mr E. B. Murray was advised that the mare was banned forever from racing in Australia.

Race 2 - Sutherland Shire Tile Supplies – Mark Newnham Handicap

Change Gears and Keeping the Faith were slow to begin. Cooper’s Magic over-raced badly, and near the 800m ran out abruptly. Trainer Ms D.Poidevin-Laine was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners. A post-race veterinary examination of Ochil Hills revealed no abnormality. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that Magilas was moderately distressed. N.Cumberland (Sialis) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that passing the 1,100m he made insufficient effort to prevent his mount shifting in, resulting in Brancusi being taken in across the running of Ochil Hills, which lost its rightful running and was checked. N.Cumberland’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on 10 August and to expire on 23 August, on which day he may ride.

Race 3 – Eurimbla Saddlery – Mitty’s of New South Wales Gai Waterhouse Handicap Class 1 (Division 1)

Trainer Mr R.Quinton was fined $50 for presenting Physique in the mounting yard without blinkers, which were part of the gelding’s approved gear. Whilst parading behind the barriers, Cool Caboul was examined and found to have a small amount of blood in its offside nostril from a minor laceration. The gelding was passed fit to start. Trafford jumped awkwardly and shifted out, hampering Regal Wood. Cool Caboul was bumped and became unbalanced near the 100m when Jackson shifted out. When questioned about the disappointing performance of Regal Wood, C.Agnew said the gelding travelled satisfactorily in a rearward position, as instructed, but when under pressure in the straight was inclined to lay in, and in his opinion was shifty in its action and he was concerned about it. A post-race veterinary examination of Regal Wood revealed no abnormality.

Race 4 – Peter Fitzgerald Real Estate Bede Murray Handicap (Division 2)

As J.Grisedale was overweight, C.Agnew was substituted on Nahini. J.Grisedale was fined $50 (AR.120(b)). Chief Arpad over-raced in the early stages. Passing the 300m Stylish Butterfly had to be steadied when crowded by Celtic Crossing and Broccae, which was briefly taken out by Tabaluka.

Race 5 – Zelmac Cup

Acting on veterinary advice that Savage Garden was unfit to start, permission was given at 10.07 a.m for the gelding to be scratched. Storm Buster got its head up and became unbalanced when being steadied near the 1,800m. Shanrhear hung out making the first turn. Sapphire Prince was inclined to lay out rounding the home turn and in the straight. On straightening, Stop The Show was briefly held up for clear running. Near the 100m Storm Buster shifted out under pressure and inconvenienced Dazzling Gold. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that Black Comet, which weakened over the concluding stages, was displaying the thumps.

Race 6 – 2002 Jim McGee Memorial Cup

Approaching the first turn Twickenham got its head up and shifted out when being steadied off the heels of Zed Force. When Twickenham shifted back to the fence, Our Bali Hi had to be steadied. Twickenham did not obtain clear running over the concluding stages.

Race 7 - My View Lodge Racing Stables Handicap

This race was run in heavy rain. Tyranny reared on jumping and lost ground.

Race 8 – ITC Premiership Day Handicap

Trendsetting jumped awkwardly and shifted in, resulting in Micranthum being severely checked a short distance later. Shortly after the start Shellharbour Dom was crowded between Jacali and Mascara Magic, both of which shifted ground.
