Sydney's Spring Carnival Kicks off Saturday

The 2002 STC Spring Carnival begins this Saturday at Rosehill Gardens, and features the G2 Clipsal Peter Pan Stakes and the G3 TJF Group Concorde Stakes.

Special guest Rhonda Burchmore, one of the stars of the hit musical MAMMA MIA! which opens at Sydney’s Lyric Theatre on 26th September, will be attending Rosehill Gardens this Saturday.

Ms. Burchmore will sing the Australian National Anthem from the Parade Ring prior to Race 2 – the MAMMA MIA! Plate - and will also be sashing the winning horse for Race 2.

Rosehill Gardens first day of Spring Carnival sees stars such as Century Kid, Carael Boy, and the Gai Waterhouse trained pair Phoenix Park and Excellerator appear.

The G2 Clipsal Peter Pan Stakes sees potential 3-year old stars compete including Recruiting, Sportsman, Takas and Clangalang.

The support program includes two listed races, the Winning Edge Presentations Stakes and the Hyland Sportswear Premier’s Cup. Both races have a multitude of proven black type performers competing.

Day 1 will also feature the "Cop an Eyeful" promotion whereby the first 1000 patrons oncourse will be provided with a free pair of People Watching Spring Sunglasses, especially designed to ‘watch the boys watch the girls’!

Other highlights this Saturday include live entertainment from midday till 4.30pm with ‘Face Value’ and ‘Vogue’ performing in the Owners & Trainers Bar from 4.30pm till 7.00pm.

Regular features of a day at Rosehill Gardens are also available, such as the popular children’s entertainment, including FREE mini train rides, jumping castle and pony rides, all located behind the JR Fleming Stand, plus the Giant screen featuring live interstate racing. Gates open at 11am.
