RACE ONE –CLASS FOUR HANDICAP 1200 METRES

Stewards inquired into the start afforded to NOBLE JAASI. It was established that just before the start was effected NOBLE JAASI put its head down and to the side, and as the gates opened it straightened but left the gates very awkwardly and lost considerable ground. It was the opinion of the Stewards that as NOBLE JAASI had been affected by nothing other than its own behaviour it had not been denied a fair start and it was deemed to be a starter. Trainer Miss K Trembath was told that should NOBLE JAASI behave similarly in future action may be taken against it. MASTER TOMMY was also slow to begin.

RACE TWO –FILLIES & MARES MAIDEN PLATE 1000 METRES

Whilst parading in the enclosure ZARBOUR LASS was kicked by another runner and after arriving at the start was found to be sore in the right shoulder. It was withdrawn by order of the Stewards on veterinary advice at 1.31 pm. Subsequently Stewards ordered all bets on ZARBOUR LASS be refunded and that successful bets made prior to the withdrawal be paid subject to deductions of 27c win and 19c place in the dollar on the face value of the ticket. IN VERSE, FOLLOW THAT DREAM and CLASSIC CAT were all slow to begin. When questioned on OUR BILLIE JO racing forward today Trainer Mr E Sandford said that at its previous start it had been intended to ride the mare in or near the lead but it had been a little slowly away and had not shown the expected speed. He said instructions had been similar today and that when it began much better OUR BILLIE JO was able to take up a forward position.

RACE THREE –OPEN HANDICAP 1200 METRES

A Abrahams replaced S Traecey (indisposed) as the rider of MISS CEEANNE. B Compton replaced G Matthews (injured) as the rider of DISSENT. MISS CEEANNE was very slow to begin. An inquiry into the reason for App P Lo being dislodged from BURGUNDY BEAU near the 700m was adjourned to a date to be fixed. App Lo was taken to hospital with suspected hip and shoulder injuries. RACE FIVE – ENTIRES & GELDINGS CLASS TWO HANDICAP 1000 METRES

BOY JACK was a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 7.55 am. B Compton replaced G Matthews as the rider of WINDMILL. Near the 800m METRO MAX stumbled when it clipped the heels of YUKON MINER after being checked when crowded between that horse and NASRULLA PRINCE which was racing ungenerously, got its head up and shifted in away from THEATRICS. In the circumstances no action was taken. ORCHID BOY hung out noticeably throughout the race, particularly in the straight, proving very difficult to ride.
