Passing the 1300m the saddle shifted forward on Casual Dawn obliging its rider to allow that mare to stride forward to the lead. As Casual Dawn crossed Magilas near the 1200m mark and slowed the pace, Magilas had to be steadied off the heels of Casual Dawn.

RACE 2 – Parkroyal Parramatta Maiden Handicap 1100m

Riviera Playboy jumped awkwardly and lost considerable ground. Approaching the 600m Riviera Playboy which commenced to overrace, improved to the inside of Mooktanus. Mooktanus then shifted in slightly resulting in Riviera Playboy having to be checked and shift in hampering Foloos. When questioned regarding his riding of Riviera Playboy around the home turn, P Losh stated that the gelding in his opinion was not travelling well enough to come to the outside of King Of The Realm around the home turn and was also inclined to race greenly. He stated that when he improved to the inside of King Of The Realm, Vondale, which was racing ahead of him, shifted out slightly resulting in him having to continue into clear running to the inside of Vondale. A short distance later near the 100m Mooktanus shifted out resulting in Riviera Playboy being steadied and not being able to be fully tested to the line. P Losh was advised that in the opinion of the stewards the better option would have been for him to come to the outside of King Of The Realm at the entrance to the straight where there was clear running and that he would be expected to consider all available options in similar circumstances.

RACE 3 – Aubrey Brown Partners Class 1 Handicap 1000m

Stewards inquired into the reasons why T Treichel weighed in almost one kilogram under his allotted weight on return to scale on the winner Simon Rules. Acting under the provisions of AR 143 stewards allowed T Treichel to make the weight with his bridle and subsequently declared correct weight. T Treichel could offer no tangible reason as to why he weighed in light. He gave evidence in the presence of trainer G Yorke, who saddled the gelding today, that he had included all the gear that he had weighed out with, which was confirmed by Clerk of Scales Mr J Saunderson. T Treichel was reminded of his obligations under AR 143 to weigh in at the correct weight. On jumping Our Teacher’s Pet was crowded between Covet Thee and Stylish Kingdom, both of which shifted ground. Echo Chamber was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight.

RACE 4 – Wideline Windows And Doors Class 4 Handicap 1200m

Acting on veterinary advice that Lapwing, which sustained a laceration to its off stifle in the enclosure, was unfit to start, stewards ordered its withdrawal at 2.39pm. Stewards subsequently ordered that all monies wagered on Lapwing be refunded in full and with regard to betting with bookmakers all successful wagers made prior to 2.39pm be subject to the following deductions in the dollar on the face value of the ticket: win and traditional each way, 19 cents win and 16 cents place; quinellas 40 cents; multiple doubles 19 cents. Continuously, which was slow to begin, was crowded for room shortly after between Dark Brandy and Tree Lopper which jumped awkwardly. Near the 1000m Cups Quest had to be steadied between Citi Fella and Tree Lopper (S Pollard) which shifted in. S Pollard was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground. Cups Quest did not obtain clear running at any stage in the straight.

RACE 7 – Wyong Rugby League Club 2002 Wyong Gold Cup 2100m

Manzeal jumped awkwardly, shifted out and hampered Cuchulainn’s Leap. Approaching the 200m Spillway shifted out and bumped Feed The Metre. Approaching the winning post Colosseum had to be steadied when Monte Mist shifted in. D McLellan (Space Age) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding for permitting his mount to shift in around the home turn when not clear of Manzeal resulting in that gelding being taken in onto Cybernetic which was severely checked. D McLellan’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Thursday 12 September 2002 and to expire on Friday 20 September 2002 on which day he may ride. When questioned regarding the improved performance of Bondi Iceberg today compared to its 13th of 14 runners in the listed Premiers Stakes at Rosehill on 31 August 2002, trainer A Wildeman stated that the gelding was inclined to pull hard in that race and for this reason he removed the blinkers in an endeavour to get the gelding to settle better. He attributed this as the main factor for Bondi Iceberg’s improved showing today.

RACE 8 –Wyong Roos – 2002 Premiers Class 2 Handicap 1350m
