RACE 1: MAIDEN PLATE 1200 METRES:

BE QUICK missed the start. Near the 900M STAR FLICKER ran onto the heels of COSMIC JESS, had to be steadied and lost ground. An inquiry into the reason SILK LINED blundered and dislodged its rider passing the 700M was adjourned until J Flanagan, who was transported by ambulance to Tamworth Base Hospital, was available to attend an inquiry. KAYSEAN D’SUNSHINE, which was following SILK LINED at that point, had to be checked severely and lost considerable ground.

Passing the 1400M BATON ROUGE had to be steadied to avoid the heels of DEL SOME, which shifted in slightly when not quite clear. G Ryan was asked to exercise more care in future. ON A SHAKE hung out throughout the race and placed its rider at a considerable disadvantage. Trainer Mr J Englebrecht was told that prior to racing again, ON A SHAKE would have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial.

RACE 4: CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1400 METRES:

RACY AFFAIR and FASTING missed the start. When questioned in relation to the altered riding tactics adopted on MAC’S SEATTLE, trainer Mr T Martin explained that although MAC’S SEATTLE had been racing in a forward position at its most recent starts, he felt that the gelding was disadvantaged when ridden in this fashion if the gelding had to be pressured in the early and middle stages to achieve this forward position. He said that he instructed his rider today to allow MAC’S SEATTLE to race in the field wherever the gelding travelled comfortably without placing undue pressure on it. He said that, even allowing for the rearward position MAC’S SEATTLE adopted, it was his opinion that when placed under extreme pressure by its rider passing the 600M, MAC’S SEATTLE failed to respond and could not improve. Mr Martin was able to display considerable stable financial support for MAC’S SEATTLE and said that the gelding would not run until a similar class event over 1600M at Moree in one month’s time, where if the pace of the race suited, MAC’S SEATTLE may be ridden in a more forward position. His explanation was noted. A post-race veterinary examination of MAC’S SEATTLE failed to reveal any obvious abnormality. A post-race veterinary examination of JADE THIEF, which after racing in a forward position began to hang out from the 600M and weaken, failed to reveal any obvious abnormality.

RACE 8: CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1200 METRES:

C Morgan replaced J Flanagan as the rider of GOLD VERSE (NZ). Near the 1000M BOLD FLUSH, which was hanging in and shifting ground inwards, despite the efforts of its rider, crowded JUNCTION TIME, which had to be checked severely and as a result of this NO TILL, which was following also had to be checked and lost considerable ground. For some distance approaching the home turn, NO TILL was continually held up and unable to improve, then near the 400M had to be steadied and shifted very wide on the track to go forward. When placed under pressure inside the 400M BOLD FLUSH continued to hang in and proved difficult to ride. Trainer Mrs N Pullman was told that a warning for erratic behaviour would be placed on the racing record of BOLD FLUSH and if the gelding continued to race in this manner it would be placed in barrier trials to rectify its waywardness.
