Trainer Given Six Month Ban for False Statements

NSW TRB Stewards yesterday continued an inquiry opened on 6th August into the training of horses in the complex at 31 Oak Street, Rosehill, when further evidence was taken from licensed trainer Mr N. Cox and stablehand Mr S. Nicoletti.

Mr Cox pleaded guilty to three (3) charges under AR 175(gg) of having made false statements in connection with the control of racing when interviewed by Stipendiary Stewards, Mr P. Hartmann and Mr C. George at the Oak Street stables on 1 August concerning the training of horses in the Oak Street stables.

Mr Cox's trainers licence was disqualified for a period of six months on each charge with the three penalties to be served concurrently.

Consequently, Mr Cox will be eligible to apply for a trainers licence on 20 February, 2003.

Mr S. Nicoletti pleaded guilty to a charge under LR82(3) of having ridden trackwork at Rosehill Gardens on 1 August, 2002 whilst unregistered.

Mr Nicoletti was fined $300. In assessing penalty the Stewards took into account that Mr Nicoletti had been penalised previously for this offence.

Mr Nicoletti was advised that under AR191 he must receive the permission of the Board for horses stabled at 31 Oak Street, in which he has an owning interest, to be transferred to the control of a licensed trainer.
