Race 1 - FILLIES & MARES MAIDEN PLATE 1200 METRES

NORTHERN CROSS was slow to begin. HARRY'S GOLD began very awkwardly and lost ground. After the 900m MISS ZEUS hung out and became awkwardly placed on the heels of OUR BILLIE JO. When questioned on his riding of HARRY'S GOLD in the early part of the straight G Colless said he had followed TARA CARABEEN into the straight and anticipated securing a run between that horse and OUR BILLIE JO but he had been forced to steady his mount and attempt to shift out when they did not go forward as he expected. He said he was then held up behind BOTANIC GARDEN and to the inside of MISS ZEUS and had also been disappointed when attempting to take a narrow run between those runners. Colless said he was then obliged to shift out rather abruptly when MISS ZEUS went forward and that, when in clear running, HARRY'S GOLD got to the line well. He added that, in his opinion, HARRY'S GOLD will be improved by the race experience and may be better suited at a longer distance. In the circumstances these explanations were noted.

Race 2 - ENTIRES & GELDINGS MAIDEN PLATE 1200 METRES

AUTUMN PRINCE began awkwardly, shifted in and collided heavily with ORPHAN FRED. CORONARYand LINTOLA were slow to begin. AUTUMN PRINCE was obliged to race wide throughout. A veterinary examination of that gelding after the race found no abnormalities. App C Franklin (SLIM SHADY) said that his mount was slow away, was inclined to over-race badly when the pace staedied near the 900m and he had to check it off the heels of PRINCE MARSCAY. He said that SLIM SHADY was obliged to race very wide thereafter. A Abrahams (PAPARAZZO) said that his mount raced greenly in the early stages and commenced to lose ground quickly through the field after the 600m, giving him the impression that it may have gone amiss. A veterinary examination of PAPARAZZO after the race found no abnormalities.

Race 3 - OPEN HANDICAP 1000 METRES

PHANTOM LONG LEGS reared at the start and lost ground.

Race 4 - CLASS FOUR HANDICAP 1000 METRES

GEORGE'S GIRL missed the start. DAMASCUS CALLING began awkwardly and lost ground. Near the 650m POETIC LORD, which was racing greenly and hanging out, was steadied when crowded slightly by INDIAN QUIVER which was taken in slightly by MAGIC SEQUENCE (App C Franklin). App Franklin was told to exercise much more care in future. Making the home turn POETIC LORD hung out. M Paget (GEORGE'S GIRL) said that his mount was coming back from 1200m and after missing the start he had not bustled it along from the wide barrier. He said that GEORGE'S GIRL failed to make much impression in the straight and although rising in class had been disappointing. A veterinary examination after the race found no abnormality. When questioned on the improved performance of INDIAN QUIVER Trainer Mr T Lawes said that the gelding had not been beaten far at its latest start, prior to which he had not been able to work the horse as he would have liked due to a restricted training track schedule. He said as a consequence INDIAN QUIVER had derived benefit from that run. He also pointed out that in its previous preparation the gelding had won when coming back in distance similar to today. Mr Lawes indicated stable support similar to each of the horses' other starts. Swab samples were taken.

Race 5 - NBN TELETHON KEN HOWARD CUP OPEN HANDICAP 1400 METRES

HALF HOLY was very slow to begin. HENRY GILBERT also missed the start. When questioned on DON'T MISS racing back in the field today Trainer Mr S Thompson said that in recent races, when ridden for speed, he felt that DON'T MISS had jarred up as a result of going too fiercely in the lead. He said for todays race he instructed the rider to allow it to settle towards the rear and hope that it found the line better. Mr Thompson was told that any significant change in tactics must be notified to the Stewards in line with TRB policy.

Race 6 - CLASS TWO HANDICAP 1600 METRES

TOVVATHANG was slow to begin. Near the 1000m LET HIM HUNT became unbalanced when buffeted between ST. DIAMOND and ALLNIGHTER which shifted out slightly. Near the 200m ASIA was disappointed when attempting to improve around LANDILLAC and to the inside of DARCY D'OR and, when doing so, it was accidently struck on the nose by the whip of the rider of DARCY D'OR.
