RACE 1: Exchange Maiden Handicap 1000m

Dane Supply dislodged its rider and broke through the barriers, but was pulled up after a short distance and was passed fit to start by the club's veterinarian surgeon. Wild Spec, Dane Supply, Dr Slice and Mystical Lad were slow to begin. Camus began awkwardly. Near the 700m Dr Slice and The Cedars were severely checked when tightened for room by Audacious Henry, which blundered badly after clipping the heels of Headphone (D. Beasley). It was established that Headphone was initially taken in by Dane Supply, which had to steady away from the heels of Stanford, but that a few strides later Headphone ran in away from Stanford, which in turn was inclined to run in away from Camus. No action was taken other than to reprimand D. Beasley and advise him that in similar circumstances he must show that he is making every effort to relieve tightening to other runners. Wild Spec hung out rounding the home turn. Western Jester was inclined to hang out under pressure in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination of Western Jester did not reveal any obvious abnormality. Stanford had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the straight. Lookalike, Raise A Knight and Stanford laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.

RACE 2: Tellers Maiden Plate 1000m

Middlebrook jumped awkwardly. Trumps blundered on jumping. Tomato Blonde, Spurhill and Chatelaine were slow to begin.

Mi Senorita overraced in the early stages and near the 1000m Lady Sharmi had to be steadied from the heels of Mi Senorita. A post-race veterinary examination revealed Acceptive, which raced disappointingly, was mildly lame in the near-fore leg, Mr C. Lees, representing trainer Mr M. Lees, was advised that a veterinary certificate must be produced before Acceptive is permitted to race again.

RACE 4: Staff Maiden Plate 1400m

On jumping Eliza Dolittle was bumped between Flying Viking and Dr Loane, which shifted in. Rata was slow to begin. Passing the 1000m Sneeze got its head up when being steadied off the heels of Invasive. Rounding the home turn Eliza Dolittle and Dr Loane came together. Of Note was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed Bold Youth was displaying a poor recovery rate and signs of respiratory distress. Trainer Mr M. Johnston was advised that a veterinary certificate must be produced before Bold Youth is permitted to race again.

RACE 5: DET NAC Rising Stars Handicap 1400m

As App. R. Stewart was injured permission was granted for App. J. Ford to be substituted as the rider of Bayroof. Prince Cadmus was a late withdrawal at 1.45pm on veterinary advice that the gelding was lame in the near-fore leg. Mr G. Lee, stable representative for trainer Mr J. Lee, was advised that a veterinary certificate must be produced before Prince Cadmus is permitted to race again. At the start Guernica ran in and crowded Bayroof and Lord Linden. Near the 600m Little Bit Lively, which was inclined to shift out, was hampered when tightened for room between Enemy Fire, which shifted in slightly, and Planxty, which was taken out by Brantwood Manor. Approaching the 200m Guernica was buffeted when tightened for room between Planxty and Modern. Planxty bled during this event and will incur the mandatory three-month ban from racing (AR53A). App. B. Hull (Lord Linden) was spoken to concerning use of the whip on a horse out of contention (AR137A).

Buckley on Absolute Lure. When questioned T. Jones (Ballyhaze) stated that he did not ride his mount out as he felt it was short in its action behind. A post-race veterinary examination revealed Ballyhaze was coughing and displaying a poor recovery rate. Trainer Mr P. Cave advised that Ballyhaze will now be spelled.

RACE 7: Futures Handicap 2000m

Midnight Carols knuckled over on jumping. Master Maestro was slow to begin. Passing the 200m Midnight Carols shifted in and hampered Wonder Blue. G. Buckley (Wolf Winter) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that near the 1400m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Kellystown Road resulting in Kellystown Road clipping the heels of Wolf Winter and blundering. G. Buckley's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday 11 August 2002 and to expire on Monday 26 August 2002 on which day he may ride. A post-race veterinary examination of Arrogant Lad, which performed poorly, revealed the gelding had sustained a speedy cut to the inside of the near-fore canon and abraded the near-fore and both hind bumpers. Trainer Mr S. Ritchie undertook to report the results of a full veterinary examination of Arrogant Lad.

RACE 8: Accountants' Handicap 1000m

The Bushranger, which knuckled over on jumping, was taken out shortly afterwards by Dashing Danzero, which resulted in The Bushranger, Go Errol, Solid Mandala and Mirage Lover being crowded and Absolute Lure becoming unbalanced when bumped on the hindquarters. Noble Trust was briefly held up and had to change direction back to the inside to obtain clear running near the 200m. Solid Mandala hung in under pressure near the 100m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed Lucifer's Double was displaying a poor recovery rate.

GENERAL:

The Stewards today heard a report from AJC Betting Supervisor Mr R. Sultana concerning an incident that occurred at the Warwick Farm Racecourse on Wednesday 31 July 2002 when a security guard brought an under-age bettor to his office. Mr Sultana advised that the security guard had observed the under-age bettor placing a bet with a member of Mr Waterhouse's staff and that the bettor was in possession of a betting ticket from Mr R. W. Waterhouse. Mr Waterhouse tendered into evidence correspondence from Mr S. Moxey relative to the incident and stated that to his knowledge no bet had been placed with a member of his staff by an under-age bettor. Mr Waterhouse was advised that on the balance of probabilities it appeared as though the bet had been taken from an under-age bettor and he must ensure his staff are instructed that where there is doubt they should request identification.
