Stablehand Recommended Counselling After Copping Fine

NSW TRB Stewards yesterday inquired into incidents involving licensed stablehand Mr Luke Waters, and licensed trainer Mr John O'Shea, which occurred on Monday, 12 August 2002.

Mr Waters was fined $200 under LR16 for having entered the stables of Mr O'Shea in High Street, Randwick, at 6am on the morning of Monday, 12 August 2002 without the permission of Mr O'Shea, who was absent at the time due to trackwork commitments.

Stewards heard that after having a conversation at approximately 9am with Mr O'Shea at his stables, Mr Waters again contacted Mr O'Shea via telephone at 6pm on Monday, 12 August 2002, and sought to raise an issue that had been determined by the Stewards in September, 2001.

At that time, following a complaint from a stable employee of Mr O'Shea, Mr Waters was obliged to apologise for having made a remark containing racial overtones to that employee at the equine pool at Royal Randwick racecourse.

Today, Mr Waters was given a direction under AR8(e) that he must not contact Mr O'Shea relative to the aforementioned matters otherwise he may be subject to disciplinary action.

Stewards recommended to Mr Waters that he consider seeking professional counselling as it was obvious that he has some difficulty accepting closure of that matter.
