Supplementary Report:

Royal Randwick Saturday 10 August 2002: Race 2 AJC convention Centre Handicap 1600m:

Trainer Mr P. Sutherland was interviewed regarding the performance of Polar North and stated that he did not believe his instructions were unduly binding and in similar circumstances would expect the rider to show more initiative.

LATE RIDING CHANGES:

As D. McLellan was indisposed due to an injury sustained at Muswellbrook races on Tuesday 13 August the following substitutions were made: Race 3 B. Stanley on Ile De France; Race 6 S. Marshall on Beamer; Race 7 J. Cassidy on Love This Citi; Race 8 J. Cassidy on Marslanding.

RACE 1: Canterbury Leagues Club Handicap 1100m

Magic World was slow to begin. Parapente hung in badly throughout the early stages. Trumps was inclined to hang in under pressure in the straight. At the 700m Template was hampered when crowded by Trumps, which was inclined to lay in away from Stratica. A post-race veterinary examination of Move It Or Lose It did not reveal any abnormality. App. M. Cant (Parapente) was reminded of his obligations regarding the use of the whip on a horse out of contention.

RACE 2: Good Guys Bankstown Handicap 1100m

Newcastle Crown jumped awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with Force Apollo, and a short distance later was crowded when How I Wonder shifted in. Gladiada, which was held up for a run rounding the home turn, was disappointed for a run to the inside of Force Apollo, which shifted in approaching the 100m. Close to the finish line Gladiada and Newcastle Crown were steadied when held up on the heels of Force Apollo. Trainer Ms L. Aspros was fined $100 for failing to present the Document of Description for Newcastle Crown.

RACE 3: Progressive Investment Securities Handicap 1550m

Dream Beauty was slow to begin.

RACE 4: Mike Hughes & Partners Finance Brokers Superfecta 1250m

Trainer Mr J. Pride was fined $50 for presenting Redfern Lady late into the mounting yard (AR8(e)). At the start Kurrajong Mist jumped out and hampered Miss Tornado. On jumping Lapwing was tightened for room between Villeroy and Win Here Win There, which shifted in. Forum Floozie was unable to obtain clear running in the straight. Miss Tornado suffered a bleeding attack and will incur the mandatory three-month ban (AR53A).

RACE 5: On The Spot Tyres Handicap 1250m

Throwdown jumped awkwardly. At the 700m Cut It Out clipped the heels of Incident (App. M. Travers), which shifted in. App. Travers was reprimanded and advised to ensure he is two lengths clear when shifting ground.

RACE 6: Bradley Australia Handicap 1250m

Stylish Crown overraced in the middle stages. Rounding the home turn Bull Finch, which was inclined to lay in away from Stylish Crown, shifted in taking Ya Ya Effendi in onto Forbill, which struck the running rail. When questioned regarding his ride on Bull Finch, R. Quinn stated that his instructions were not to bustle the gelding early and to allow the gelding to settle in a position where it was most comfortable. He stated that Bull Finch began reasonably well, but was beaten for pace. He added that whilst over the concluding stages Bull Finch worked home reasonably well, the gelding was inclined to lay in and proved difficult to ride. When questioned regarding the improved performance of the winner, River To Me, trainer Ms D. Poidevin-Lane stated that at its most recent start at Warwick Farm on 31 July the gelding began awkwardly and then was not competitive when it got a long way back in the field. She stated that the gelding's previous start when it finished 3rd at Kembla Grange on 20 July had been encouraging and whilst disappointed with the Warwick Farm effort she felt the improvement today was principally due to River To Me racing closer to the speed.

RACE 7: Adco Constructions Handicap 1900m

Lady Sharmi broke through the barriers, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start. Gifted Royal was inclined to hang in throughout. Leaving the 600m Blue Arctic was disappointed for a run between Arcadian Prince and Captain Daylight. Blue Arctic had to shift out across heels in the early part of the straight to obtain clear running. B. York (Captain Daylight) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that near the 450m after initially being taken out by Master Maestro he allowed his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear resulting in Arcadian Prince and then Gifted Royal losing their rightful running and having to be checked. In assessing penalty the Stewards took into account the contribution of Master Maestro. B. York's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on 18/8/02 and to expire on 29/8/02 on which day he may ride. When questioned concerning the performance of Love This Citi, J. Cassidy stated that he had not intended to lead, but when nothing else went forward he allowed his mount to cross Thirio. He added that Love This Citi overraced throughout the early and middle stages in the lead and as a result weakened in the straight. Trainer Mr. J. Morish stated that in his view the manner in which Love This Citi was obliged to race was the principal factor in the gelding performing below par. He added that Love This Citi is best suited when able to be ridden with cover. C. Brown, rider of 2 nd placegetter, Blue Arctic, was fined $200 for weighing in 1kg over his declared weight (AR145).

RACE 8: Hy-Tec Concrete Superfecta 1550m

Hot Music was slow to begin. Tyrrell hung out rounding the home turn. A. Banks (Colosseum) lost the near-side iron in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination of Royal Heir, which raced disappointingly, did not reveal any abnormality.
