RACE 1: Eastlakes Handicap 1600m:

White Fuji and Order Arms, which were late arriving due to a float breakdown en route to the course, were examined by the club's veterinarian surgeon and passed fit to start.

Great Cyrus began awkwardly and then blundered.

Tornado Kid (D. Beadman) pulled hard in the early stages, resulting in the saddle shifting forward near the 1200m and eventually D. Beadman retired that runner approaching the home turn.

RACE 2: Alexandria Handicap 1000m:

Proprietor jumped awkwardly and then shifted in hampering Stella Regale.

Jesterette knuckled over on jumping.

Approaching the 600m Dial Tones was inclined to lay in and had to be steadied from the heels of Dane Supply.

Tengpoche hung out rounding the home turn resulting in Proprietor, which was endeavouring to improve between Tengpoche and Prime Century, which shifted in slightly, having to be checked off the heels of Tengpoche.

Close to the finish line Splish and Dane Supply came together.

A post-race veterinary examination of Proprietor, which after racing forward did not run on in the straight, revealed the colt to be displaying a poor recovery rate and to have abraded its off-hind bumper. A swab sample was taken. Trainer Mr P. Perry undertook to report to Stewards the results of a full veterinary check.

RACE 3: Malabar Handicap 1100m:

Tonosama jumped awkwardly.

Passing the 900m Real Dream was momentarily taken in by My Woodie, which resulted in Riu having to be steadied and then run out across the heels of Real Dream.

A post-race veterinary examination revealed Riu, which raced very disappointingly, was suffering cardiac arrhythmia. Mr G. Lee, representing trainer Mr J. Lee, was advised that before Riu is permitted to race again the results of an ECG must be furnished and then the gelding must trial satisfactorily and undergo a further veterinary check following the trial.

RACE 4: Botany Maiden Plate (1 st Division) 1400m:

About the 1100m Beata shifted in away from Helissia and made contact with the running rail.

Helissia was held up for a run in the early part of the straight.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of Wicked Wizard, J. Sheehan could offer no excuse other than from his favourable barrier he made use of the gelding to race in a forward position, and in his opinion Wicked Wizard may be better ridden more quietly.

A post-race veterinary examination revealed Wicked Wizard to be displaying a poor recovery rate. A swab sample was taken.

RACE 5: Botany Maiden Plate (2 nd Division) 1400m:

Kiwi Cruiser shifted in shortly after the start and bumped Sesemann.

Wild Heart hung out in the middle stages.

Approaching the 1000m The Cedars had to steady off the heels of Sierra Dane (D. Beasley), which shifted in.

Cabinda, which was following, was hampered in consequence.

D. Beasley was advised to ensure he is two lengths clear when shifting ground.

For some distance after straightening Sierra Dane and Stanford bumped as Sierra Dane endeavoured to improve to the outside of Fiammarosa, which was inclined to drift out under pressure.

Passing the 200m Sierra Dane then shifted back across the heels of Fiammarosa to obtain clear running.

L. Beasley (Fiammarosa) was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift out crossing the finishing line resulting in Stanford being checked and Wild Heart being hampered.

L. Beasley was advised as this was the second occasion in recent times on which his riding had caused concern regarding his control of his mount after the winning post, he was now placed on notice that he may be penalised unless he exercises more care.

RACE 6: Surry Hills Handicap 2400m:

Approaching the 600m, when Royal Mews improved to the inside of the heels of Bello Signor, Travellin' Blues was crowded for room and obliged to check.

Azzeal was badly held up in the early part of the straight.

Master Maestro was held up until near the 200m.

When questioned concerning the disappointing performance of Travellin' Blues, L. Beasley stated that his mount began very awkwardly and appeared to get on itself from behind. L. Beasley stated that as a result of this incident his mount raced further back than intended and was never travelling kindly.

A post-race veterinary examination revealed Travellin' Blues had sprung its near-fore plate and was displaying a poor recovery rate. A swab sample was taken. Ms E. Candy, representing trainer Mrs G. Waterhouse, undertook to report to Stewards if there was anything amiss with Travellin' Blues following the race.

RACE 7: Destination Management Companies Handicap 1800m:

An objection was lodged by C. Brown, rider of 2 nd placegetter, Abeel Hostess, against Kesia (J. Grisedale) being declared the winner alleging interference near the 300m. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the videos the Stewards upheld the objection when they found that near the 300m as Abeel Hostess made its run to the inside of Kesia, Kesia shifted in causing Abeel Hostess to be checked and have to come to the outside of that runner to obtain clear running. The placings were amended as follows: 1 st Abeel Hostess, 2 nd Kesia, 3 rd Zeltrice.

At a subsequent inquiry J. Grisedale pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) and his licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Monday 26 August and to expire on Friday 6 September on which day he may ride.

Garden Scene overraced in the middle stages and had to be restrained from the heels of Spirit Of The Nite.

Spirit Of The Nite got its head up when being restrained in the early stages and in the straight experienced difficulty obtaining clear running.

An inquiry was opened into App. G. Scimone's riding of Spirit Of The Nite and in particular into why he had not shifted out approaching the 600m when Garden Scene improved to his outside. After taking evidence from App. Scimone in the presence of his master's nominated representative, Mr J. Pride, and from Mr A. Cummings, stable foreman to trainer Mr B. Cummings, the Stewards adjourned the inquiry to a date to be fixed.

RACE 8: Potts Point Handicap 1400m:

Subsequently it was directed that all bets on Casual Story be refunded and that all bets with bookmakers be subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of tickets: traditional win and place: 4¢ win, 5¢ place, 8¢ quinella, 4¢ multiple doubles.
