RACE 1 – the Moneywise Financial Solutions Class 4 Handicap 2100m

Mandalay Bay was slow to begin.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of Campaignor, jockey A Abrahams stated that his mount pulled hard in the early and middle stages and consequently failed to run out the 2100 metres. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any obvious abnormalities. Trainer P McLeod agreed with jockey Abrahams’ explanation and undertook to report if there is anything amiss with Campaignor in the days subsequent.

RACE 2 – Moneywise Clients Maiden Handicap (Div 2) 1100m

As C Brown was overweight D McLellan was substituted as the rider of Life’s Rosie. C Brown was fined $100 under AR 120(b).

Stewards considered an objection lodged by R Thompson, the rider of second placegetter Cymbala, against Danseur Celebre (S Pollard) being declared the winner alleging interference in the straight. After considering all the evidence stewards established that on two occasions inside the final 200 metres Danseur Celebre shifted out resulting in Cymbala being taken out from its rightful running. Stewards were of the opinion that had the interference not occurred Cymbala would have finished ahead of Danseur Celebre and consequently upheld the objection and amended the placings to No.5 Cymbala first, No.2 Danseur Celebre second and No.3 Malindi Magic third.

At a subsequent inquiry S Pollard was advised that in similar circumstances he would be expected to make a greater effort to prevent his mount from shifting out than he did on this occasion.

Stylish Dane was slow to begin.

RACE 3 – Moneywise Ladies Maiden Handicap (Div 1) 1100m

Black Hawk hung out rounding the home turn.

D McLellan (Pick A Card) stated that whilst in the barriers the mare became fractious and as a result he sustained an injury to his right knee. D McLellan was stood down from riding for the remainder of the day.

When questioned regarding his riding out of Dark Dane in the straight, jockey A Abrahams stated that after being slow to begin his mount failed to show any early pace despite his efforts. He said rounding the home turn he placed Dark Dane under heavy pressure where it commenced to make some ground, however he did not continue to ride with the whip in the straight as he felt as though the gelding was doing its best under hands and heels riding. A Abrahams was advised to ensure that he makes every effort to ride his mounts out so as not to leave room for query.

Stewards opened an inquiry into B Cooper’s riding of Inter Power in the straight. After taking evidence from B Cooper and stable foreman Mr T Bellew stewards adjourned the inquiry to a date to be fixed.

RACE 4 – Fund Managers Class 2 Handicap (Div 2) 1100m

Shortly after the start Harka Creek shifted out and inconvenienced Pinetti.

Newbold Countess overraced in the middle stages and near the 600m was steadied and shifted in to avoid the heels of Kissada.

When questioned as to why he did not improve around the heels of Black Hawk on the home turn S Pollard (Northern Rocket) stated that he felt Black Hawk would take him into the race and for that reason he elected to remain following that horse, however just prior to straightening Black Hawk lost some ground at that point and as a result he was obliged to steady his mount and consequently was caught up on the inside of the heels of that runner.

RACE 5 – David Loadsman Class 2 Handicap (Div 1) 1100m

Shortly after the start Denim Express shifted in away from Medowie Gold resulting in it striking the running rail and becoming unbalanced.

Near the 500m Delightful Success was checked when crowded between Santreno Lass, which commenced to give ground quickly and shifted out slightly, and Jesters Lad (A Huke) which, after initially being taken out by Delightful Success, shifted back in. A Huke was advised to exercise more care.

Approaching the 300m Delightful Success was again hampered when crowded for room by Radiance Of Apollo which shifted out and away from Santreno Lass which shifted out slightly while continuing to give ground.

A post race veterinary examination of Santreno Lass found the mare to be sore in front. Trainer P McLeod was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required before Santreno Lass is permitted to start again.

RACE 6 – Peter Benson Restricted Maiden Handicap 1200m

Just Play overraced in the early and middle stages.

RACE 7 – Financial Planners Class 1 Handicap 1600m

Shortly after the start Emelia was steadied to avoid the heels of Cyclone Molly (B Cooper) which shifted in. B Cooper was advised to exercise more care.

Near the 600m Rebel Pass was checked away from the heels of Precious Lass which commenced to give ground.

Passing the 100m Danemountain Miss was steadied to avoid the heels of Oz.

RACE 8 – Moneywise Transitional Handicap 1600m

Superfine, which had been standing awkwardly, brushed the side of the gates on jumping resulting in its rider S Pollard becoming unbalanced.

Approaching the 100m The Moonster was checked when disappointed for a run to the inside of Tara Express.

Apprentice G Scimone was unable to offer any tangible explanation for the poor performance of Conjuror and a post race veterinary examination of the gelding did not reveal any obvious abnormalities.

RACE 9 – Benson Hoey Class 4 Handicap 1200m

Arathea, Pimpala Warrior, Dashing Danzero and Earth Legend were checked on jumping when crowded between Jetonova and Gymnasium which was hampered by Sea Time which jumped awkwardly and shifted out.

A Gibbons (Gymnasium) stated that on attempting to obtain cover behind Sea Time near the 900m his mount commenced to overrace badly and consequently had to be checked to avoid the heels of Sea Time resulting in his mount shifting out abruptly and becoming badly unbalanced.
