Consideration was given to an objection lodged by J Whitney rider of the third placed AVOW against DYNAMIC PRINCESS (B Stanley) being declared the winner alleging interference near the 200m. It was established that near the 200m DYNAMIC PRINCESS commenced to shift out and near the 100m AVOW improved into doubtful running outside DYNAMIC PRINCESS resulting in TIGHT FIT being crowded and SPEED LANE being hampered. LA JAASI which was following was checked as a result. As the stewards were of the view that any interference suffered by AVOW did not materially affect the placings, the objection was dismissed. At subsequent inquiries J Whitney was severely reprimanded and B Stanley was reprimanded.

MISS LANE broke through the barriers prior to a start, however was quickly restrained and passed fit to race by the club’s veterinarian. When questioned App R McMullen (O’TEMPTATION) explained that the horse settled in a rearward position as expected however ran on only fairly in the straight and in his opinion would be better suited in races over a longer journey. A post race veterinary examination of O’TEMPTATION did not reveal any obvious abnormality. O’TEMPTATION was sent to be swabbed. When questioned regarding his riding in the early part of the straight M A Cahill (WARDECK) explained that the gelding has only a short sprint and for this reason he elected to balance the horse early in the straight and when under pressure WARDECK ran on only fairly. Stewards advised M A Cahill that his riding of WARDECK early in the straight was of concern to stewards and in future he would be expected to place his mounts under more pressure at vital stages of races and to ride his mounts in such a manner as to leave no room for query. K Dunbar (BLIGH COUNTY) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding (AR 137 (a)) in that near the 800m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of HUNGER STRIKE which was taken in onto STOLEN PRINCE which was severely checked and crowded onto PITTER POTTER and LITTLE PEARLER both of whom where severely hampered. K Dunbar’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday 18 August, 2002 and to expire on Sunday 25 August, 2002 on which day he may ride.
