RACE 3: Hi Quality Turf Supplies Maiden Plate 1200m

Socalypso was slow to begin. Nefertiti Crown shifted out at the start and tightened Flaming Inferno onto Robertson Park. Near the 1100m Flaming Inferno was steadied to avoid the heels of Eugavos which shifted in momentarily. Near the first turn Hallowed was steadied when tightened by Nefertiti Crown, which was taken in by Eugavos (J Grisedale) which shifted in when not quite clear. J Grisedale was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care. When questioned R M Quinn, the rider of Wide Awake, which was having its first start, explained that he was instructed to endeavour to be in a handy position. He said that the gelding jumped only fairly and despite his efforts Wide Awake could not go the early speed and after being caught wide when the pace steadied near the 900m, he was obliged to ease off the heels of Finest Jewel. He said shortly thereafter Wide Awake in his opinion lost concentration and he slapped the horse up to keep in touch with the field. He said approaching and rounding the home turn he considered shifting to the outside of Finest Jewel to go forward but when that horse appeared to be taken out by Nefertiti Crown, which was racing to his inside, he was unwilling to be taken wider and therefore sought to improve to the inside of that horse. He said that consequently he steadied for a short distance just after and on straightening he made contact with Finest Jewel when shifting out to obtain a clear run.

RACE 4: Windsor Turf Supplies Maiden Plate 1400m

As apprentice M Howarth was overweight, permission was granted for apprentice G Scimone to be substituted as the rider of Naturally. Apprentice Howarth was fined $100. For some distance after the 1200m Majestic Design overraced when awkwardly placed inside the heels of Double Shift. When questioned apprentice R Wiggins (Tilbury) explained that he was instructed to endeavour to settle the horse just off the pace. He said in the early stages he allowed Majestic Design to cross him in the hope that that horse would go forward and lead. When this did not eventuate he was positioned further back than intended and consequently commenced to overrace. He added that Tilbury did not run on as hoped in the straight. Trainer Mr S Smith explained that at its most recent start Tilbury led, which was contrary to pre-race plans, and confirmed the advice given to apprentice R Wiggins today. Mr Smith was reminded of his obligations to at least notify the stewards if there is any change in riding tactics and undertook to report on the condition of Tilbury in the days subsequent. A post race veterinary examination of Tilbury did not reveal any obvious abnormalities. B Cooper (Prefix) explained that rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight she followed Monte Peak and once her mount was properly balanced up she shifted to the outside of that horse and approaching the 200m placed Prefix under pressure.

No report.

RACE 6: Dad & Dave’s Turf Supplies Class 2 Handicap 1600m

Stewards considered an objection lodged by N Seymour, the rider of second placegetter No Tracks, against Compaignor (A Abrahams) being declared the winner alleging interference over the last 200m. On the evidence it was established that Compaignor, which was laying out, shifted out slightly causing some inconvenience to No Tracks, however bearing in mind the margin of half a length the stewards were of the view that had the interference not occurred that No Tracks would not have finished ahead of Compaignor. In those circumstances the protest was dismissed. A post race veterinary examination of Rainbow Maker which, after being caught wide, went forward at the 600m, did not reveal any obvious abnormalities. Balgold was held up for the major part of the straight. Be True Thanks had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the straight and then near the 100m when placed under pressure shifted in abruptly and was checked off the heel of Rainbow Maker.

RACE 7: Turfcare NSW Class 2 Handicap 1200m

Pirate Spy jumped awkwardly and lost ground. Near the 900m Kimash, which got its head up while overracing, was checked off the heels of Lord Rory. Apprentice R Freeman (Kissada) dropped her whip near the 200m. A post race veterinary examination of Adventurous Rose, which was caught wide through out, revealed the filly to be displaying signs of being in season. When asked about the performance of Predominator, B Herd said that the gelding was slow to begin and caught wide through out the race. He added that Predominator hung out approaching and rounding the home turn and weakened considerably in the straight. A post race veterinary examination of Predominator did not reveal any obvious abnormalities.

RACE 8: Eclectic Golf Constructions Pty Ltd Class 4 Plate 1400m

Approaching the 1000m Storm Force, which was overracing, was steadied to avoid the heels of New York Style (A Marney) which shifted in when not quite clear. A Marney was advised to exercise more care. B Cooper (Aubade) was severely reprimanded for permitting her mount to shift out approaching the home turn when not quite clear of All Elegance resulting in that mare having to be steadied.
