Track: Good

RACE 1: Cody Premium Outdoor Handicap 1100m:

J. Cassidy stated that his instructions were to have Choreograph up on the pace, but his mount missed the start when it was not standing properly. He added that he was then hampered in the first 200m when Sunday Joy, which was inclined to lay in, shifted in away from If You Say So. Shortly afterwards Sunday Joy, which was still inclined to lay in, got its head up when being checked off the heels of Tom Coureuse. J. Cassidy stated that he was hampered again at the 800m when Game Stats (P. Ferris) shifted in. P. Ferris was advised to exercise more care. J. Cassidy stated further that Choreograph was inclined to lay out throughout the event. At the entrance to the straight Sunday Joy was disappointed for a run between Son Of Pegasus and Tom Coureuse (D. Beasley), which shifted out. D. Beasley was advised to exercise care. Sunday Joy continued to lay in and proved difficult to ride in the straight. At the 250m If You Say So was crowded for room between Choreograph and Summer Eyes, both of which shifted ground.

RACE 2: Mamma Mia! Plate 2000m:

Hot Music stood flatfooted at the start and lost considerable ground. Trainer Mr J. Morrisey was advised that a warning would be placed on Hot Music. Crimewave was slow to begin. Near the 200m Spirit Of The Nite was disappointed for a run between Chanova and Crimewave, which shifted out. Cuchulainn's Leap was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed Newington Style lost its near-hind plate during running. Mr F. Cleary trainer of Newington Style, which raced disappointingly, indicated that the gelding would now be spelled.

RACE 3: Winning Edge Presentations Stakes 1100m:

Pompeii was slow to begin. Fatoon shifted in at the start taking Mica's Pride in on to Quest For Success. Rounding the first turn Rare Insight ran out badly taking Lismore out on to Moonflute. Rare Insight continued to hang out for the remainder of the race. B. York (Fatoon) stated that Fatoon never travelled well and was a beaten horse at the entrance to the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed Fatoon was displaying a poor recovery rate. Trainer Mr Conners undertook to report if there was anything amiss with Fatoon in the days subsequent.

RACE 4: Hyland Sportswear Premier's Cup 1900m:

Abeel Hostess and Halls Of Assembly were slow to begin. Approaching the first turn Bondi Iceberg had to be steadied off the heels of Chinhoyi, which was taken in by Mouthwash. At the entrance to the straight Dress Circle was disappointed for a run between Mouthwash and Time Off, which shifted out. G. Boss, rider of 5th placegetter, No Limit, was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out right to the finish. Stewards inquired into the improved performance of the winner, Gamesman, as compared to its 12th placing at Rosehill Gardens on 17 August 2002. On that occasion rider L. Beasley stated that he had to make use of the gelding to take up a forward position and with four weeks between runs Gamesman had not run out the 1900m journey. Trainer Mrs G. Waterhouse today advised the Stewards that in her view the most significant factor was the 4kg drop in weight.

RACE 5: Vinery Stud Handicap 1200m:

Trencher was slow to begin. On jumping Valkyrian shifted out and hampered Danny Dancer. At the 1100m Valkyrian hung in causing To Be Fair to be hampered and taken in on to Cosmic Ray. Cosmic Rays then shifted in away from To Be Fair resulting in Go Errol being checked. Mississippi River shifted out from behind Patch Adams in the early part of the straight bumping Stella Maree. For some distance in the early part of the straight Trencher and Time Deposit came together as Trencher endeavoured to improve between Valkyrian and Time Deposit. Trencher was then held up for some distance thereafter. At the 200m Go Errol shifted out taking Olivier wider. D. Beasley (Mississippi River) stated that in his opinion Mississippi River was reluctant to race inside horses and performed disappointingly as a result. He added that although Mississippi River suffered severe interference at the 100m the gelding was a beaten horse at the time. A post-race veterinary examination of Mississippi River did not reveal any abnormality. B. Stanley (Danny Dancer) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that near the 100m he commenced to improve between Patch Adams and Mississippi River, which resulted in Mississippi River being badly buffeted between Patch Adams and Stella Maree and in turn causing Stella Maree to be taken out on to Valkyrian. B. Stanley's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Saturday 7 September 2002 and to expire on Friday 20 September 2002 on which day he may ride.

RACE 6: TJF Group Concorde Stakes 1100m:

Gabfest and Strabane were slow to begin. Passing the 200m Phoenix Park shifted in under pressure taking Century Kid in onto Fouardee and Shags. D. Beasley (Into The Night) was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in approaching the 150m taking Excellerator in causing Carael Boy to be steadied. Gabfest was held up for a run for some distance passing the 150m. Near the 70m Phoenix Park and Into The Night came together due to both horses shifting ground.

RACE 7: Clipsal Peter Pan Stakes 1500m:

Polar North was a late scratching at 8.33am on veterinary advice. An objection was lodged by B. Stanley, rider of 4th placegetter, Maskerado, against Clangalang being declared 3rd alleging interference 200m after the start and again on the first turn. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and also from R. Thompson, rider of Bullala, the Stewards dismissed the objection when they found that although Clangalang shifted in at the 1300m causing Maskerado to be checked, they could not be satisfied it had a material bearing on the finishing positions of the respective horses. The Stewards deemed that on the first turn Maskerado ran up and had to be checked off the heels of Clangalang when that horse steadied rounding that turn. At a subsequent inquiry M. Flaherty (Clangalang) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that near the 1300m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Maskerado, which resulted in Maskerado being checked and taken in onto Bullala and losing its rightful running. In this incident Platinum Scissors, which was racing to the inside of Bullala, was also hampered. M. Flaherty's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday 8 September and to expire on Saturday 21 September 2002 on which day he may ride. Recruiting was slow to begin. Shortly after the start Maskerado had to steady off the heels of Master Veloce when taken out by Bullala. Clangalang, which was following, was hampered in consequence. Rounding the first turn Ripcords, which was overracing, had to be steadied off the heels of Sportsman. Mr P. Snowden, representing trainer Mr J. Hawkes, stated that it had been the intention to ride Takas in a forward position, however, when trapped wide jockey D. Beadman was obliged to go to the lead in order to be closer to the fence. After being bumped by Maskerado at the entrance to the straight, Recruiting shifted out and hampered Sunny Riviera. Near the 150m Sunny Riviera was inclined to lay out and made contact with Sportsman. An inquiry into the reason for Humayun being buffeted for some distance between Master Veloce and Clangalang near the 300m was adjourned to a date to be fixed.

RACE 8: Matador Bullbars Superfecta 1400m:

Black Ale shifted out at the start taking Impregnable out onto Rose Beat, which was severely checked when tightened onto the hindquarters of Etoile Bleue. B. Cooper stated that her instructions had been to find cover on The Man, however, she was obliged to go forward and lead when trapped wide. Trainer Mr V. P. Sutherland indicated that The Man would be ridden more quietly at its next start. S. Marshall (County Tyrone) stated that his mount did not show any dash and in his opinion is looking for further ground. App. N. Cumberland (Johnny Reb) was reprimanded for directing the line of This Manshood across the field after travelling 200m. App. N. Cumberland was reprimanded further for permitting his mount to shift in near the 100m, which resulted in This Manshood, which had been badly held up for a run, being taken in onto Deranged, which was buffeted between This Manshood and The Man. Trainer Mr P. Cave will be interviewed regarding the performance of Etoile Bleue and asked to report on the mare's progress in the days subsequent.
