RACE ONE: CLASS 3 HANDICAP 800 METRES.

KYA BAY raced wide throughout. Near the 500m SHORTY’S DUCK was eased away from the heels of YALLAH BRONZE. T Harris (OUR FAMILY) was fined $200 for returning to scale excessively overweight. (AR 145).

RACE TWO: MAIDEN PLATE 800 METRES.

CARRY THE WEST was slowly away. MARIKO MAGIC blundered at the start. Near the 600m PUGMOSS was checked away from the heels of NEW DESTINY when racing ungenerously. NEW DESTINY raced greenly throughout and near the 200m shifted in abruptly resulting in rider becoming unbalanced. CHARMING VISION which was following was checked as a result.

RACE THREE: CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1000 METRES.

SNOW ALPS began awkwardly and then was eased away from the heels of DON MOXIE near the 900m.

RACE FOUR: CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1200 METRES.

GLEESO’S GREY was a late withdrawal at 11.30am. LEIMAIZ stood flatfooted at the start losing ground. Trainer Mr J Lundholm advised it is now his intention not to proceed with the preparation of LEIMAIZ. NO OTHER NAME over raced in the early and middle stages and then hung in when under pressure in the straight. T Harris (NEVER GIVE) pleaded guilty to a charge of improper action (AR 175 (a)) in that he placed his arm on the top of the scales when presenting himself to weigh out for this race in order to alter his weight. T Harris’ license to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday 11 August, 2002 and to expire on Saturday 7 September, 2002 on which day he may ride.

RACE FIVE: CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1700 METRES.

CRADLE OF GOLD began awkwardly and the got its head up when being restrained in the early stages. When questioned S Pawsey (WEE STROLL) explained that his mount was only fairly away however travelled well but was disappointing in its failure to run on when under pressure in the straight. J W Stanley (CRADLE OF GOLD) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding (AR 137 (a)) in that near the 150m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of RACE TO SPACE which was crowded across the running of CROWN DESIRE which was checked. J W Stanley’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Wednesday 14 August, 2002 and to expire on Friday 23 August, 2002 on which day he may ride. In assessing penalty stewards took into consideration J W Stanley’s excellent race riding record.

RACE SIX: OPEN HANDICAP 2000 METRES.

Consideration was given to an objection lodged by J W Stanley rider of the second placed ROMA POINT against CLEAR DISPLAY (J Whitney) being declared the winner alleging interference near the 200m. It was established that near the 200m CLEAR DISPLAY shifted in and inconvenienced ROMA POINT however as the stewards were of the view that had the interference to ROMA POINT not occurred that CLEAR DISPLAY would still of finished ahead of ROMA POINT the objection was dismissed. At a subsequent inquiry J Whitney was reprimanded.

RACE SEVEN: CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1400 METRES.

When questioned D Jeffries (HAPPY HARPO) explained that his mount over raced throughout and for this reason did not appear to run out a strong 1400m of today’s race. Trainer Mr G Bignell explained that in his opinion HAPPY HARPO did not run out the distance of today’s race and in his opinion would be better suited in races over a shorter journey.
