Waddell Tests Postive To Ice

Jason WaddellLeading New Zealand jockey Jason Waddell has been stood down indefinitely after testing positive to the illicit drug methamphetamine, commonly known as "ice".

New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing recently announced that Waddell produced the positive test at Ellerslie on May 26.

After laboratory Environmental Science and Research (ESR) notified NZTR of their findings, Waddell has been stood down with the Judicial Control Authority (JCA) set to determine a penalty.

Waddell will be remembered by most Australians as the winning rider of Lord Tavistock in this year’s Group 2 Blamey Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on March 13.

Waddell is not the first jockey to test positive to methamphetamine in recent times.

Apprentice Brent Evans was suspended for two months for testing positive to the drug late last year while Chris Bryant was recently rubbed out for six months for testing positive to amphetamine and methamphetamine at Hamilton on April 17.
