Near the 500 metres SCAFFOLD had to be checked off the heels of DA PERO, which weakened quickly.

When the gates opened, CLASSIC ROSE bounded in the air and lost ground. Near the 900 metres DANE VITE shifted out slightly to avoid the heels of HIT AND HOPE and in doing so bumped MC CRAE. Approaching the 50 metres DALRIADA, which was making ground quickly, had to ease outward to avoid the heels of HIT AND HOPE which had rolled out slightly. MC CRAE, which was weakening, was hampered slightly as a result.

Prior to the event the club’s Veterinary Surgeon inspected KU RING GAI CHASE and which had been inspected after its previous disappointing run and reported that he could find no obvious signs of abnormality. Stewards questioned G Clarke rider of RICHOTTO regarding the geldings performance today. G Clarke stated that in view of the fact that RICHOTTO was first up from a spell and not suited by the distance he believed it was a good performance. He further stated that rounding the first turn RICHOTTO had a tendency to hang out. Stewards acknowledged G Clarke’s evidence however reminded him of his obligation to ride all his mounts in a manner so as to leave no room for query. During the event ARINNA lost its off fore plate.

In the early and middle stages of the straight ARAGORN was held up for a clear run, which prevented its rider S Leckey from riding it out in his normal manner. Subsequent to the event the club’s veterinary surgeon inspected WARISAN and reported that the gelding had lost its off hind plate. Mr Severino trainer of ARNSIDE was fined $20 for using club colours on that gelding. Near the 500 metres FRISK ME had to be eased off the heels of HIGH REVS.

Stewards concluded an inquiry into the reason for RAJA BOY being removed from the course in contravention of AR117. Mrs L Williams trainer of RAJA BOY was notified that the Clubs Veterinary Surgeon went to inspect the gelding, which had weakened badly and reported that the gelding had left the course (4:33pm). Mrs Williams stated that after hosing the horse down and doing the necessary tasks after the race she took her horses home not realising that the 30 minutes the horse must remain on course had not expired. Ms Williams was fined $50 for removing RAJA BOY from the course in contravene of AR117.
