When the gates opened CHEMICAL HEART and OH OH were slow away.

Shortly after the start OH OH attempted to buck.

RACE FOUR        CLASS 5 HCP – 11OO M

D Coffey (a), rider of FREEDOM FUNDS was found guilty of a charge of careless riding (ARR137 (a)).  The careless riding being that approaching the 1000 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of ARINNA taking that mare in onto BE STRONG resulting in ARINNA having to be checked and BE STRONG being hampered.  D Coffey was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire at midnight on Saturday 13th December, 2003.  As QUEEN OF THE NORTH was unable to be placed in the barriers, stewards ordered the withdrawal of the mare at 3.30pm.

Subsequent to the event stewards ordered all monies wagered on QUEEN OF THE NORTH to be refunded and the following betting deductions.  All monies wagered prior to the withdrawal of QUEEN OF THE NORTH to be paid as follows:- for the win, face value of the ticket less 16 cents in the dollar. For the place, face value of the ticket less 18 cents in the dollar.

Ms A White, trainer of QUEEN OF THE NORTH was advised that a warning will be issued against the filly and if it was to perform in a similar manner in future, some action may be taken.  Ms A White trainer of BE STRONG notified the stewards that the gelding pulled up distressed and was tied up in all legs.

RACE SIX       CLASS B HCP – 12OO M

L Schmidt rider of CAPTAIN SINBAD, which performed below expectations, stated that the gelding raced well until the 450 metres and was then reluctant to race.   He further stated that he believed the gelding had trained off and was in need of a spell.  The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon inspected CAPTAIN SINBAD and could find no obvious abnormality.  Mr L Houldsworth trainer of CALMER KARMA was fined $50 for presenting that horse without its approved gear.

RACE EIGHT        CLASS 3 HCP – 15OO M

When the gates opened SPECTOR was slow to begin and LAVA FLOW stood flat footed and then jumped away awkwardly.

Near the 200 metres KISSING DOWN and VIDAL came together.

D Coffey notified the stewards that he would be ½ kg overweight at 57.5kg on Vidal.  As there were no replacement riders available stewards permitted D Coffey to ride Vidal ½ kg overweight.

D Coffey, rider of VIDAL was fined $100 for accepting a ride for which he was subsequently overweight (AR120(b)).

Mr D Park, trainer of SHODIYM claimed to the stewards that jockey C Moon had accepted the ride on his horse and then notified him the following day that he had accepted the ride on CLEOPATRA’S NEEDLE and would not be riding SHODIYM.  After taking evidence from both Mr Park and C Moon stewards deemed that C Moon should fulfil his engagement on CLEOPATRA’S NEEDLE and accordingly scratched SHODIYM at 1.36pm.

C Moon was found guilty of a charge under AR85B and fined the sum of $200 with refusing to fulfil the riding engagement on SHODIYM.
