When the gates opened BYSANTO jumped away awkwardly.

Stewards questioned D Bates, rider of BYSANTO, which performed below expectations. D Bates stated that BYSANTO raced well for the first half of the race but failed to respond when put under pressure in the latter stages of the race. The clubs veterinary surgeon inspected BYSANTO subsequent to the event and reported that the gelding was lame in the near fore leg.

L Critoph, rider of SHODIYM was fined $100 for excessive use of the whip (AR137A(1)).

As there were no riders available PARNAC, DEL ARKO and GOLDEN DAME were withdrawn by the stewards at 1.00pm.

Stewards questioned W Sharp, rider of SHE’S CLASSY, as to the reason for him taking hold of that filly approaching the 650 metres. W Sharp stated that SHE’S CLASSY had appeared not to appreciate the dirt coming back in her face and had eased her.

CRASH MCGRATH was taken wide on the home turn by TEL EL SABA who shifted out.

At the start BRAND NEW was slow into stride.

When the gates opened RING CYCLE jumped away awkwardly.

Near the 600 metres EL ALAMADOR had to be eased off the heels of PRINCE ANTHONY.

Mr A Trengrove, trainer of FRISK ME (NZ) was fined $20 for using club colours.
