As C Lever was indisposed Stewards permitted the following rider changes:-

C Lever was notified that prior to him again riding he must produce a medical certificate stating that he is fit to ride.

On jumping away, NASH STREET jumped inwards and severely hampered CHIGWIDDEN and AWASH was hampered. Also on jumping away ENUNCIATE and STRESS RELIEF came together.

Near the 800 metres, NASH STREET had to be eased off the heels of AZARIS which was coming back to the field.

Rounding the first turn NASH STREET hung out across the heels of AZARIS and had to be eased.

The clubs veterinary surgeon inspected STRESS RELIEF subsequent to the event and reported that the gelding had an injury to his left eye.

RACE SIX CLASS D HCP – 16OO M

Near the 650 metres, GO BRAGH was tightened for room between KOSSI PRINCE, which rolled out when being eased off the heels of GEODUDE and ITALIC which rolled in slightly.

Rounding the turn CALMER KARMA and KOSSI PRINCE raced tightly and bumped for some distance.

RACE SEVEN FLYING HCP – 11OO M

On jumping away, GAMERA, which bounded at the start, was severely tightened between ARAGORN, which shifted in, and SPACE PRINCE.

Rounding the turn SPACE PRINCE hung out badly

Prior to correct weight being declared, the connections of SKIING requested to view the official image of the finish.

The clubs veterinary surgeon inspected GAMERA subsequent to the event and reported that the gelding had lacerations to the near fore, and was mildly lame.

J Hallam (a), rider of ARAGORN was fined $250 for weighing in 1.0 kg over his declared weight (AR145).

RACE EIGHT CLASS 6 HCP – 13OO M

Approaching the winning post, JEREMIAH BULLFROG was crowded for room, and taken in onto RING CYCLE by SILENT MAJORITY, which rolled in under pressure. P. Denton, rider of SILENT MAJORITY, was severely reprimanded and notified that in similar circumstances in future, he must stop riding, and straighten his mount earlier than he did on this occasion.

Near the 200 metres, JEREMIAH BULLFROG rolled in onto RING CYCLE.

RACE NINE CLASS 2 HCP – 12OO M

On jumping away FLASH HENRY came out and hampered STAGE KING. Also on jumping away ZIPPA RAJA shifted in and forced WOLF TRAP in onto AN HONOR (NZ). As a result WOLF TRAP was hampered and AN HONOR (NZ) had to be checked.

Rounding the turn near the 650 metres STAGE KING, which was racing ungenerously lost its position.

Approaching the winning post REDISON was disappointed for a clear run.

The clubs veterinary surgeon inspected AN HONOR (NZ) subsequent to the event and reported that he could find no apparent abnormality. Stewards questioned Mr G Rogerson, trainer of AN HONOR (NZ) who reported that the mare coughed on a number of occasions after pulling up and in his opinion may have got sand down its throat.

1st FLASH HENRY 2nd SNAP TO IT 3rd REDISON

RACE TEN METRIC MILE – 1OOO M

On jumping away THE SPUNK was tightened for room between OLD SWAMPY and MI SENORITA (NZ) both of which shifted.

Near the 1500 metres THE SPUNK was tightened for room by EL CARTERO which shifted in.

Near the 650 metres THE SPUNK, which was racing ungenerously, had to be eased when tightened for room.

At the entrance to the straight INDIAN RIDGE was tightened for room between VITELLI, which was racing tight and BEVAN which shifted out.

RACE ELEVEN NT DERBY – 2OOO M

Near the 600 metres SURRENDERS had to be eased off the heels of ANNUAL LEAVE when that gelding began to weaken. WILD HEART and TJILPI were taken wide and hampered as a consequence.

N Callow, rider of WILD HEART was found guilty of a charge of careless riding. The careless riding being that near the 250 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of DALRIADA taking that gelding in onto CARTOON HERO and it in turn in onto EDGE TO EDGE. This resulted in DALRIADA being hampered and CARTOON HERO clipping the heels of EDGE TO EDGE and being severely hampered and EDGE TO EDGE being inconvenienced. N Callow was suspended for a period to expire at midnight on Saturday 2 August 2003.

On return to scale L Schmidt, rider of fourth placegetter DALRIADA lodged an objection against WILD HEART being declared the second placegetter alleging interference in the early part of the straight. After viewing the video of the race and taking evidence from the parties concerned stewards dismissed the objection and declared correct weight.

The clubs veterinary surgeon inspected SURRENDERS subsequent to the event and reported that the gelding was lame in the near fore leg.
