NT 2: CLASS 5 HANDICAP 1400 METRES 6 STARTERS

At about the 500 metre mark STAR DAMSEL (G.Lefoe) rolled outwards, resulting in NYSTROM (W Sharp) having to be eased. Jockey B HUPPATZ, rider of ANTS which had performed below expectations stated to Stewards that the horse had raced well in the early stages of the race but from the 800 metre mark was under pressure and did not respond to his riding from that point. Trainer of ANTS, Mr K LAMPRECHT stated that he thought the horse would be competitive and he was disappointed with the run but could offer no reason. A veterinary examination of ANTS revealed no abnormalities. Explanations noted by Stewards.
