Pine Creek (NT)

Race 1class b hcP (1) - 1000 metres:

Mr B Merrall, trainer of SEABISC was questioned in relation to his failure to produce a clearance for that gelding which last raced interstate (AR59B(b)).  Acting on Mr Merrall’s assurance that SEABISC was clear of any embargo stewards permitted the gelding to race.

When the gates opened, CHEESECAKE and SEABISC were slow into stride.

Rounding the home turn VLTAVA lost his footing and slipped on an area of damp surface on the track, resulting in that gelding almost falling.  DRYMAHI and SEABISC also slipped on the same area of the track.  After the race B Davis (a), rider of VLTAVA advised stewards he did not wish to ride for the remainder of the day as in his opinion the track was unsafe rounding the home turn.  S Ridler, rider of DRYMAHI also expressed his opinion that the track during this race was unsafe rounding the home turn.  Following consultation with the other riders and an inspection of the track, stewards advised jockeys to take additional care for the remainder of the meeting and to give each other extra room.
