Acting on veterinary advice that COSEVEIN was lame and unfit to start, stewards ordered the withdrawal of COSEVEIN at 1.38pm. Stewards questioned Ms A White trainer of COSEVEIN about the circumstances surrounding the scratching of COSEVEIN. Evidence was also taken from farrier C Pollard. It was established that COSEVEIN had suffered a stone bruise some days ago and that injury was the reason for it having to be scratched. After considering all the evidence stewards ordered that a scratching fee of $500 be imposed.

Trainer A Trengrove sought permission for SKIING to be placed in the barriers last. After considering the matter stewards refused Mr Trengrove's request. On jumping away SKIING bounded and lost some ground. Near the 500metres SKIING had to be eased off the heels of GANGA.
