SEA ROYAL (M Cullen) had to be eased at about the 100 metre mark the first time when GREY DESERT (N PAINE) shifted in slightly. SEA ROYAL (M Cullen) raced wide from the 1200 metre mark to the home turn. HI TAIL (B Cornell) had difficulty obtaining a run at about the 300 metre mark. Subsequent to correct weight being declared the Judge notified Stewards that an error had been made in the 3rd and 4th placings in the race where the correct placing should have been HI TAIL 3rd and CYPRESS LAKE 4th. Mr A SMEDLEY stated to Stewards that after semaphoring the places he had perused the photo finish further and discovered that he had made an error. Stewards perused the image and then within their powers under NT144 amended the placings to DUHOVNY 1st, VITELLI 2nd and HI TAIL 3rd. NT144 in part reads; no alteration to the Judges places after correct weight will have any effect on previous orders given by Stewards as to the payment of bets. Connections of CYPRESS LAKES represented by Mr V OLDFIELD and HI TAIL, Mr G COLEMAN were advised by Stewards of their decision. At a subsequent Inquiry into the incident the Judge, Mr A SMEDLEY was made aware of the seriousness of the incident and severely reprimanded. Prior to the race Stewards made an examination all jockeys gear after they had weighed out.
