When the gates opened NOT THIS TIME (NZ) jumped in across OH OH.

Approaching the winning post DEVARATU shifted inwards.

The clubs veterinary surgeon inspected DEVARATU subsequent to the event and reported that the gelding was lame in the near fore leg.

RACE FOUR CLASS 5 HCP – 12OO M

On return to scale D Bates, rider of the second placegetter PALACE LAD lodged an objection against ACELA being declared the winner alleging interference between the 400 metres and the 350 metres. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the video of the race, stewards upheld the objection, the amended placings being-

2nd ACELA

In reaching a decision, stewards took into account that near the 400 metres PALACE LAD was tightened for room between ACELA and SYLVAN GREEN due to both horses shifting ground. In relation to the incident near the 350 metres the stewards deemed that the interference caused to PALACE LAD was entirely attributable to ACELA and had the interference not occurred PALACE LAD would have beaten ACELA.

When the gates opened ACELA both bounded in the air.

S Leckey (a) was fined $50 for mounting CLEOPATRA’S NEEDLE with his skull cap not properly affixed (AR 87).

Rounding the home turn BE STRONG was held up for a clear run.

In the early part of the straight BE STRONG was disappointed for a clear run on the inside of SYLVAN GREEN.

J Hallam, rider of ACELA was found guilty of a charge of careless riding (ARR137 (a)). The careless riding being that at about the 300 metres he permitted ACELA to shift in when not sufficiently clear of PALACE LAD. As a result PALACE LAD had to be eased and shift across the heels of ACELA to obtain a clear run. J Hallam (a) was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire at midnight on Saturday 1st November, 2003 (2 meetings).

Rounding the home turn FULL GALLOP had a tendency to hang out.

C Moon, rider of ROCKHOUND was found guilty of a charge of careless riding (ARR137 (a)). The careless riding being that near the 500 metres he permitted ROCKHOUND to shift in and as a result FULL GALLOP had to be checked. C Moon was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire at midnight on Saturday 1st November, 2003 (2 meetings).

Near the 50 metres ICHIKAWA was disappointed for a clear run.

In the straight GALVESTON STORM had a tendency to lay in which necessitated its rider S Leckey (a) to stop riding and straighten his mount.

Apprentice J Hallam was reprimanded for unseemly behaviour in that on the morning of 17 October 2003 while riding trackwork he verbally abused a DTC club employee. J Hallam was notified that such conduct will not be tolerated in the future.
