Stewards questioned Mr D Park, trainer of SHODIYM and L Schmidt, rider of the gelding after L Schmidt weighed out to ride 1 kilogram overweight when the horse was weighted at 56.0kgs. L Schmidt stated that he informed Mr Park earlier in the week that he would be 1 kilogram overweight. Mr Park indicated that he misunderstood the overweight policy and mistakenly believed that he was able to declare a rider 1kg over at 56.0. Stewards accepted the explanation of Mr Park however notified him of the overweight policy.

When the gated opened TARCOOLA MAGIC was slow into stride.

RACE TWO CLASS 5 HCP – 12OO M

Stewards questioned Ms R Thompson, trainer of SHARDY NEIGH about whether she was in possession of the document of description for that filly. Ms Thompson indicated that the previous trainer had posted them on Friday 17th January and that they had not arrived. Stewards notified Ms Thompson that prior to her accepting for SHARDY NEIGH to race again she must have the document of description in her possession.

On jumping away SHARDY NEIGH and DEE VEE DEE came together.

RACE THREE CLASS D HCP – 1OOO M

Stewards questioned Mr L Houldsworth, trainer of NEAREST THE PIN, which required a Veterinary Certificate of soundness prior to racing. Mr Houldsworth was notified that the horse was cleared from Western Australia with that embargo but stated that he forgot to do so. The club’s veterinary surgeon inspected NEAREST THE PIN and passed the gelding fit to start. Mr Houldsworth was fined $200 for failing to comply with a requirement of the stewards, that being that he produce a veterinary certificate of soundness prior to the gelding racing (AR175(p)).

Stewards accepted the explanation of trainer Ms A White regarding her failing to produce a clearance for RING OF DIAMONDS which last raced interstate.

RACE FOUR CLASS 1 HCP – 13OO M

When the gates opened HIT AND HOPE jumped outwards taking CLASSIC ROSE out onto DANE VITE, as a result CLASSIC ROSE was hampered.

The club’s veterinary surgeon inspected all runners after the event after a number of riders returned to scale with spots of blood on their silks. The club’s veterinary surgeon reported that he could find no evidence of a horse having suffered an attack of bleeding or any obvious injury to any runner.

RACE FIVE OPEN HCP – 11OO M

When the gates opened ARAGORN jumped inwards onto EL ALAMADOR.

In the straight FRISK ME (NZ) had a tendency to lay in.

The club’s veterinary surgeon reported that SOUCH STREET pulled up lame in the near foreleg. Stewards notified Ms R Thompson, trainer of SOUCH STREET that prior to the gelding again racing she must produce a veterinary certificate of soundness making specific reference to the gelding’s near side knee.
