RACE 1 – WEST END / SABIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE - 1200 metres

When the gates were released SHOWGIRLS (J. O’Connor) and DOT’S BLUEBIRD (B. Vale) jumped away awkwardly and bumped.

Racing to the 800 metres LA SUPREME (P. Gatt) had to be eased to avoid the heels of EDGING AROUND (B. Claridge), at the same time as POWER TO RULE (Darren Holland) rolled out, resulting in LA SUPREME bumping with that gelding.

RACE 2 – GLENELG FUNERALS MAIDEN PLATE – 1350 metres

OUR PERSEUS (M. Neilson) was slow to begin.

T. Creek, rider of NAOMI PREVILS (NZ), explained to Stewards that he was held up for a run from racing inside the 400 metres until entering the straight.

Racing to the 50 metres OUR PERSEUS (M. Neilson) shifted in under riding and bumped STARLET MISS (P. Gatt). M. Neilson was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

STARLET MISS lost its near hind plate during the race.

RACE 3 – CHRISTIES BEACH HOTEL DISTANCE MAIDEN PLATE – 2050 metres

KEEP THE BOUNTY (J. Potter) jumped away awkwardly.

Racing to the 1900 metres KEEP THE BOUNTY (J. Potter) rolled in and bumped TRUCE D’ETOILE (N. Tomizawa), resulting in KEEP THE BOUNTY becoming unbalanced for a short distance.

Racing to the 1700 metres BLUE ZODIAC (J. Bowditch) shifted in, resulting in MISTER VINTAGE (B. Claridge) being tightened for room and shifting in, causing ZIP EXPULSION (P. Gatt) to bump RUBITON ROYALE (M. Neilson) and lose its position. J. Bowditch was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.

RACE 4 – CONCORD INSURANCE GROUP / SABIS FILLIES & MARES CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1350 metres

The start of this race was delayed due to AFFINITAS pulling its near side fore plate off after being placed in the barrier and requiring to be reshod.

TUDOR ARMY (J. O’Connor) jumped away awkwardly and bumped WALAMA (NZ) (M. Neilson).

Racing to the 850 metres TOUCHARAJA (C. Lindop) had to be eased to avoid the heels of RUBIREIGN (J. Holder) when tightened for room and as a consequence TOUCHARAJA lost some ground.

Racing to the 600 metres TUDOR ARMY (J. O’Connor) commenced to hang out severely and as a result J. O’Connor had to steady the mare and in consequence hampered TAIPAN ANNIE (W. Kerford), which had to be eased to avoid the heels of TUDOR ARMY which shifted out, inconveniencing TOUCHARAJA (C. Lindop).

Racing inside the 600 metres CATHY (Darren Holland) had to be checked to avoid the heels of TUDOR ARMY (J. O’Connor), as that mare continued to lose ground.

A Veterinary inspection of TUDOR ARMY failed to reveal any visible abnormalities. Mr. G. Lesnikowski, Trainer of TUDOR ARMY, was advised that a warning had been placed on the mare and should it race in a similar manner in future action may be taken against it.

RACE 5 – LUMLEY FINANCE CLASS 3 HANDICAP – 1350 metres

J. Holder was fined $100 under ARR 120(b) when he was unable to make the allotted weight on SIAM in this event.

SHIRAZ NOW (C. Lindop) jumped away awkwardly.

Racing to the 1200 metres MANIHI PRINCE (B. Vale) shifted in, resulting in CHALTOM (Darren Holland) shifting away from that gelding and in consequence SIAM (S. Price) shifted in, inconveniencing SHIRAZ NOW (C. Lindop), which in turn inconvenienced BOURBON AND WATER (J. Potter), LADY GLENLEIGH (B. Grimston) and PINOT NOW (J. Maund). Stewards were unable to attribute the blame to any one rider and no action was taken.

S. Price, rider of SIAM, explained to the Stewards that the gelding had travelled well to the 600 metres but then it commenced to race on one rein and failed to respond to his riding or finish the race off. S. Price further stated that on returning to Scale SIAM made an unusual respiratory noise.

C. Lindop, rider of SHIRAZ NOW, explained to the Stewards that after suffering some interference at the 1200 metres and in losing her position the gelding commenced to over-race and she was unable to settle SHIRAZ NOW, and in consequence she was of the opinion that effort resulted in the gelding being unable to finish the race off in its normal manner.

The Veterinary Surgeon carried out endoscopic examinations of SIAM and SHIRAZ NOW subsequent to the event, which revealed that SIAM had an upper respiratory problem and also had suffered lacerations to the near hind pastern. There were no visible abnormalities with SHIRAZ NOW.

RACE 6 – ARADLAY INSURANCE BROKERS DISTANCE CLASS 4 HANDICAP –  2050 metres

Racing to the 700 metres DAPPERSTAN (W. Kerford) shifted out, taking ON THE NATCH (K. Louca) wider on the track.

Inside the 700 metres HE’S THE SAINT (M. Neilson) shifted out, taking ELEGANT RHAPSODY (B. Vale) wider on the track.

K. Louca, rider of ON THE NATCH, explained to Stewards that from the 700 metres he was trapped wide and he was of the opinion the gelding had failed to race at its best in the track conditions.

RACE 7 – TRITON INSURANCE CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1600 metres

CELLAY was a late scratching by Stewards at 4 p.m., acting on Veterinary advice that the mare was lame in the near fore.

Stewards ruled that all monies invested on CELLAY be refunded. Bets made on other runners prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN - 23 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE - 18 cents in the dollar.
SP Bets are subject to the deductions.

C. Lever, rider of ACT OF PARLIAMENT, explained to the Stewards the gelding had travelled ordinarily throughout the race. He stated he commenced to place ACT OF PARLIAMENT under pressure from the 700 metres and the gelding failed to respond to his riding, and when he commenced to ride with the whip from the 500 metres ACT OF PARLIAMENT still failed to respond to his riding. C. Lever further stated that ACT OF PARLIAMENT failed to finish the race off as anticipated and still failed to respond to his riding over the concluding stages.

RACE 8 – WILBURTINS McDONALD INSURANCE BROKERS CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1200 metres

VILLAGE BOY was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 3.50 p.m., acting on Veterinary advice that the gelding was lame in the off hind leg.

When the gates were released KOODA SHINE (J. Lyon), ANOTHER FARE (J. Bowditch) and SLIPPERY GUY (B. Claridge) all jumped away awkwardly and bumped.

SAUVIGNON HILL (W. Kerford) was slow to begin.

Racing to the 600 metres AMBER COURT (C. Lindop) had to be eased for a short distance due to SHUKU HAI (N. Tomizawa) shifting in, away from OLD SEA SALT (J. Maund).

ANOTHER FARE (J. Bowditch) was held up for a run from approaching the 500 metres until entering the straight, and racing to the 200 metres was disappointed for a clear run when attempting to go between SAUVIGNON HILL (W. Kerford), which rolled in, at the same time as OLD SEA SALT (J. Maund) rolled out, resulting in ANOTHER FARE (J. Bowditch) being unable to obtain a clear run.

VETERINARY:

Race 2:

Post race examination of OUR PERSEUS revealed the gelding was suffering from respiratory distress. An endoscopic examination revealed an upper respiratory problem.

Post race examination of PREVAILING WIN revealed that it was lame in the near fore leg.

Race 3:

KENTON KNIGHT collided with the running rail entering the barrier and after undergoing a Veterinary examination was declared fit to start.

Race 5:

Post race examination of PINOT NOW revealed chronic pharyngitis.

Race 7:

Post race examination of ACT OF PARLIAMENT revealed no visible abnormalities.
