RACE 1 : SMITH & HOOPER HANDICAP - 1100 metres

W. Kerford replaced C. Lever as the rider of LOTHIAN at the request of Trainer, D. Jolly, who did not wish the gelding to be ridden half a kilogram overweight. No action was taken against C. Lever but he was advised by Stewards that he should make every effort to ride at the allotted weight and a repetition could lead to action being taken against him.

On jumping away SUNDAY SHOES (J. Maund), NADEN (C. Lindop) and LOTHIAN (W. Kerford) bumped.

Approaching the 400 metres LOTHIAN (W. Kerford) raced greenly and shifted ground.

RACE 2 : SAMUEL SMITH STEEPLECHASE - 3600 metres

Acting on a request by trainer Mr. D. Halliday, Stewards acceded to a request to replace P. Thomas with S. Pateman on RAQUETS (NZ).

GILLIGAN (NZ) (D. Howard) jumped the steeple inside the 400 metres on the first occasion very awkwardly.

RACE 3 : REDBANK HANDICAP - 2048 metres

REQUIEM (S. Price) was slow to begin.

SCENICY (B. Claridge) had a tendency to race fiercely in the middle stages of the race.

RACE 4 : CLANCY’S HURDLE - 3284 metres

Trainer, Mr. R. Campbell, approached the Stewards requesting permission to replace P. Thomas as the rider of VOODOO SUNSET with G. Dorol. As G. Dorol was unable to make up the 71½ kg, the Stewards agreed to replace G. Dorol with P. Fahy.

KASTABON (NZ) was eased out of the race prior to the second last obstacle.

Racing inside the 400 metres LISTON (M. Madden) shifted out and inconvenienced BRUSH WITH FAME (NZ) (D. Howard).

RACE 5 : YALUMBA ‘THE SIGNATURE’ HANDICAP - 1050 metres

COURT HERO (NZ) (M. Pegus) jumped away awkwardly inconveniencing CORPS COMMANDER (T. Creek) and KURT (P. Gatt).

J. Holder, the rider of GREAT GLEN, reported that the gelding was reluctant to take a run, racing inside the 200 metres.

D. Tootell, the rider of STAR HIT, was fined $100 under ARR 137(c) for celebratory gesture prior to the winning post.

A veterinary examination of CORPS COMMANDER subsequent to the race was unable to be carried out as that gelding had left the course within the required time. Trainer, Mr. M. Kavanagh, was fined $200 under ARR 117(3) for allowing CORPS COMMANDER to be taken from the course within the required time.

RACE 6 : PEWSEY VALE HANDICAP - 1200 metres

When the gates were released LATTE dipped and as a result dislodged its rider, S. Price.

RACE 7 : ANTIPODEAN WINES HANDICAP - 1200 metres

Racing to the 1000 metres BILLANCOURT (N. Tomizawa), which raced greenly, shifted in slightly resulting in SURE BET (W. Kerford) having to be steadied for some distance to avoid that gelding’s heels.

Racing to the 500 metres HARSH PRAISE (J. Holder) had to be steadied when held up for a run behind I KEN (M. Neilson).

Racing to the 200 metres HARSH PRAISE (J. Holder) when attempting a run between COLIN’S SPECIAL (P. Gatt), on its outside, and JEZARICH (J. Maund), on its inside, was disappointed for a run due to JEZARICH shifting out and placing HARSH PRAISE in a position where it had to check to avoid the heels of COLIN’S SPECIAL.

Racing to the 100 metres I KEN (M. Neilson) rolled out under pressure resulting in BITOVATUNE (D. Carney) shifting out and in consequence ADDITION (Darren Holland) shifted away from that gelding resulting in MUSTAAGEL (NZ) (C. Lever) having to be checked.

RACE 8 : PETER LEHMANN HANDICAP - 1600 metres

WHAT REPORT (M. Neilson) and PURE SPARK (M. Pegus) were slow to begin.

Racing to the 300 metres WHAT REPORT (M. Neilson) shifted in when taking a run to the inside of GATTON (C. Lindop) and as a result inconvenienced HIGHTARI (B. Claridge). M. Neilson was reprimanded and advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.

GENERAL:

A request was made by the trainer of RAQUETS (NZ), Mr. D. Halliday, in Race 2, the Samuel Smith Steeplechase, and the trainer of VOODOO SUNSET, Mr. R. Campbell, in Race 4, the Clancy’s Hurdle, to replace P. Thomas as the rider of their respective horses. After considering the circumstances, Stewards agreed to both trainer’s requests and P. Thomas was advised that he was replaced on both mounts, afforded an explanation and no action was taken.

VETERINARY:

Race 1

At the request of trainer Ms. K. Harrison, SKYWOOD was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon prior to the start who passed the gelding fit to take its place in the field.

Race 2

Subsequent to the race CONVEYANCE (NZ) was inspected by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities.

Race 3

Subsequent to the race LOONG HAR was inspected by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported soreness to the off side wither.

Race 4

Subsequent to the race KASTABON (NZ) was inspected by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding had possibly struck a nerve during the race.

Subsequent to the race VOODOO SUNSET was inspected by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding had sustained a knock on the near foreleg.

Race 5

GREAT GLEN was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon at the barriers and passed fit to start.

Race 6

Subsequent to the race an endoscopic examination of DISCO TIME revealed a soft palate problem.
