Murray Bridge Christmas T & R Cup Day

Well it's that time of year again folks. Where has the year gone? The Murray Bridge Racing Club are once again gearing themselves up for a great start to the festive season on Sunday 1st December with the annual running of the T & R Cup.

In the past this has proven to be a fantastic fun day for both families and companies to enter into the Christmas spirit. With live entertainment including bands, performers, a special visit from you know who (and some luck with mother nature) there are no excuses for not being there, live trackside to experience the start of the festive season.

With $20,000 up for grabs there is no doubt competition will be fierce. Will Mick Huxtable repeat his training performance of last year with Dallaeni or has he got a better one in the stable? Will Wayne "Bulldog" Kerford continue his Murray Bridge dominance? Will Rudolph the red nose reindeer have a shiny nose?

This is the second event of the Murray Bridge Racing Club's "Good things come in Three's" campaign with the third being the Australia Day Celebrations meeting to be held on Monday January 28th which is deemed to be bigger and better than previous years.

Entertainment packages are available for both days starting from just $20 per head for a Mini Marquee Package up to $69.50 per head for the Ultimate Experience Package, which includes your own marquee, catered lunch and beer, wine and soft drinks. Langhorne Creek Food and Wine Day

November is a month of great weather and great racing and you can enjoy both on the 17th of November. Over 4,000 people are expected to enjoy a day of "stimulating the senses", with the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of the Langhorne Creek region at the Strathalbyn Racecourse on Sunday 17th November 2002 with the annual running of the Langhorne Creek Vigneron's Day.

Once again, the race meeting includes the final of the Spring Series, which is the culmination of five heats over a six-week period, including races at Morphettville, other provincials and Naracoorte race tracks. A bonus of $5,000 will be awarded to the owner/s scoring the highest number of points during the series.

In addition to a great day of racing action, this meeting is a day to showcase local wines and food from the Langhorne Creek region. In a first for the industry, the Australian Drill Team will perform, along with the swinging sounds of "Funky Jazz" band - G T Stringer. Patrons would remember how the Australian Drill Team thrilled viewers around the world at the Edinburgh Tattoo in the late nineties. Their performances are of world class standard, shown by recently winning the 2001 Drill Dance International Competitions in Adelaide and their dances will be remembered long after the day. The children will also be entertained with pony rides, face painting and an animal nursery.

The day will be a feast for the senses with local produce samplings and wine tasting from some of the premier vineyards of the region. Rosemount Estate, Mildara Blass, Berenger Blass, Metala, Bleasdale Vineyards, Step Rd Wines and Marandoo Estate are just some of the wines that will be available on-course, and patrons will be invited to taste some of these fantastic wines throughout the day. There is also $500 cash and numerous betting vouchers to be won in the "Pick the Winner" competition to be held on the Cup.

Entertainment packages are available for the day, which include individual marquees for 10 or more people. These marquee packages are the ideal way to spend your day at the races, so get a group together and come and enjoy a great day of entertainment in the relaxed atmosphere of Strathalbyn Racecourse for Langhorne Creek Food and Wine Day.

Clare Valley West End Cup

On Sunday 24 November, the Clare Valley Racing Club will present its feature race of the year, the Clare Valley West End Cup.

To be run over 1800 metres and carrying prizemoney of $15,000 and a $500 trophy, it is hoped that owners and trainers will use the race as a conditioner towards the longer staying races of the SAJC's Christmas/New Year Carnival. An 1100 metre flying and a range of lesser-class races over both sprint and staying distances will make up an eight-race programme.

The Club's major sponsor, the South Australian Brewing Company, will entertain on the day upwards of 300 publicans in their hospitality marquee. A Hoteliers theme to the day will see most races carrying hotel names and their Social Club members enjoying themselves in mini-marquees spread about the public enclosure.

Those patrons with a taste for Clare Valley wines and food will be well catered for, and entertainment for them and their children provided.

The club is confident that this meeting will whet racegoers' appetites for the remainder of the Clare Valley racing season.

Bordertown Cup day

The annual running of the Bordertown Cup and Christmas Handicap will take place on Sunday 15th December 2002.

The Woolshed Inn Hotel-Motel will again sponsor the Cup, run over 1900m and worth $15,000. The Tatiara Meat Company, the area's largest employer, will again sponsor the $8000 Christmas Handicap (1100m).

The Club is confident it can build on the hugely successful day it hosted last year. Many local businesses have pledged to hold their Christmas break-ups at the course on the day and their support with sponsorship dollars will ensure the Club will continue to grow and racing in this area will be the big winner.

The Bordertown Golf Club, which boasts one of the finest country courses in South Australia, is working with the racing club to put together a memorable weekend at Bordertown. On the Saturday, the Golf Club will hold a stapleford competition. That night, a pre-cup dinner plus entertainment will be held at the Gold Club. On the Sunday everyone will head to the races where many activities will be organized to keep both adults and children fully entertained. Father Christmas will be there, along with free sweets, popcorn and fairy floss, face painting, Clydesdale horses pulling the dray with the kids aboard - the list goes on.

Other activities include Fashions on the Field, a Punters' Club, Pick The Card Competition, a free Cup draw, betting vouchers and the band "Huckleberry Swedes.

Sunday, December 15th is the day to spend in the "Tatiara" - the good country. We look forward to welcoming you to Bordertown, the home of the white Kangaroos, which can be seen directly opposite the racecourse.
