RACE 1 – AMCOR AUSTRALASIA - 1600 metres (Outer)

PETITE ETOILE (N. Tomizawa) jumped away awkwardly and brushed the outside gate.

ELAVION (D. Tootell) jumped away awkwardly.

Correct Weight was delayed in being semaphored for this race to allow M. Neilson, the rider of MCBEAL, and Mr. A. McEvoy, the trainer of that mare, to view the official head-on video of the race. After doing so, in conjunction with Stewards, Correct Weight was declared.

M. Neilson, the rider of MCBEAL, explained to Stewards that racing to the 200 metres he was intending to take a run between ELAVION (D. Tootell) and DHOLIMA’S DAUGHTER (D. Carney) but was unable to do so as there was insufficient room. As a result M. Neilson explained that he had to change course inwards to obtain a clear run.

N. Tomizawa, the rider of PETITE ETOILE, explained to the Stewards that his instructions were to ride the mare back in the field but racing to the 1200 metres PETITE ETOILE dropped the bit and as a result lost more ground than anticipated. He further stated that over the final 400 metres he rode the mare with the whip and it responded well to his riding and finished the race well. A veterinary inspection of PETITE ETOILE revealed that it has suffered a slight attack of respiratory thumps.

RACE 2 – TAPESTRY VINEYARDS - 1250 metres

MISS MOSS ROSE (D. Carney) was slow to begin.

J. Holder, the rider of REGAL FLUTE, reported that the filly raced greenly in the straight.

RACE 3 – THE GRANT BURGE WINES - 1800 metres (Outer)

SNIPALLAH (J. Holder) was slow to begin.

Racing to the 1200 metres CLARENDON’S CURSE (W. Kerford) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of SPINNERMAN (N. Tomizawa) and as a result shifted out and was forced to race wide for the remainder of the race.

RACE 4 – THE GLIDEROL STAYERS - 2400 metres

QUEEN MILENA jumped away awkwardly and in doing so threw its head up and struck it’s rider, D. Tootell, in the head. Subsequent to the race D. Tootell was examined by Ambulance staff who passed him fit to ride for the remainder of the day.

BELLTON (M. Neilson) was disappointed for a run approaching the winning post and had to be eased to avoid the heels of BUFFALO POWER (J. Holder) and KEY TO MY DREAMS (J. Bowditch).

RACE 5 – MCMAHON SERVICES - 1450 metres (Outer)

OIL CAN ANNIE was found to have blood in its mouth at the barrier. A veterinary examination revealed it had dislodged a tooth and the mare was passed fit to take its place in the field.

MESERE (W. Kerford) was slow to begin.

HAGGLE (C. Lindop) jumped away awkwardly.

Racing to the 1300 metres CAPTAIN CHRISTIE (B. Vale) shifted in and as a result SPAR (D. Carney) was taken in which resulted in NAFIR (NZ) (J. Maund) shifting in. In consequence HAGGLE (C. Lindop) brushed the running rail, became unbalanced for a short distance and lost ground. Stewards were satisfied that no one rider was responsible for the incident and no action was taken.

RACE 6 – THE RAH DEVELOPMENT APPEAL TROPHY - 1400 metres

FIREBALL (D. Tootell) and SEDONIC (G. Hoobin) jumped away awkwardly.

Racing to the 1200 metres INKAMULLA (NZ) (M. Neilson) was tightened for room, had to be eased and lost its position due to FIREBALL (D. Tootell) shifting in and away from MORE ACTION (N. Tomizawa).

Racing to the 500 metres OLIVER BEER (NZ) (T. Creek) shifted out and MORE ACTION (N. Tomizawa) shifted in resulting in those horses bumping.

RACE 7 – ALAN SHEPPARD HOMES SPRINT - 1250 metres

STORA BOLLAR (W. Kerford) was slow to begin.

Racing to the 800 metres SIMONDE (C. Lindop) had to be eased to avoid the heels of STARBUCKS (A. Stead) and in doing so rolled in, resulting in DEDICATION BOY (C. Lever) having to be checked to avoid the heels of SIMONDE.

Racing to the 200 metres GRUMANS (J. Lyon) had to be eased and shifted outwards to avoid the heels of DANEFORCE (C. Bryant).

Racing to the 100 metres GRUMANS (J. Lyon) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of CULLEN BAY (M. Neilson) and shifted out to obtain a clear run.

RACE 8 – MOYA CAR SPOILERS - 1000 metres

RUSTY BUBBLES (W. Kerford) was very slow to begin.

The Stewards questioned J. Lyon, the rider of HERACLES, as to why he had waited to the 200 metres to commence to ride his mount out. J. Lyon explained that his instructions had been to hold the gelding up to the 200 metres but in retrospect he should have made more use of HERACLES prior to the 200 metres than he had, to establish a break on the rest of the runners. The Stewards questioned J. Murray, representing trainer, Mr. J. Hall, and he confirmed the Stewards’ observations and J. Lyon’s explanation was noted.
