McEvoy's Perfect Start on Balaklava Cup Day

r1tonymcevoy.jpg (10494 bytes)Tony McEvoy has made the best possible start to what is tipped to be a big day out at the Balaklava Cup Day meeting in South Australia today.

Chapel Royal and Prosperous Bid, his only two runners in the first of eight races, filled the first and second placings.

Owned by the Sangster family’s Swettenham Stud Syndicate, Chapel Royal was having just her second race start.

On debut the daughter of the former Collingrove shuttler Revoque ran a handy fifth at Gawler, one of South Australia’s tightest and trickiest circuits.

Today back out to a more spacious track the filly and Simon Price showed a clean set of heels to set up a big break in the straight and then comfortably hold out her stablemate Prosperous Bid.

Chapel Royale is out of the Rory’s Jester mare Marillion and carried the familiar green, blue and white colours to victory.

McEvoy has leading chances in each of the eight races today, including the feature, the listed Balaklava Cup over 1600 metres later in the afternoon.
